Rural location:
'les trois fenetres' is situated in the foothills of the Corbieres, facing south, towards the Pyrenees. The area is littered with small roads and pathways, enabling you to explore wild flowers (amazing orchids), wild birds, including birds of prey (a Kingfisher lives on the river) and many varied butterflies (the Swallowtail being quite common here). There are two local lakes for swimming (in addition to the rock pool) and another deep rock pool, close to the source of the river Alsou. Many mountain walks are available for walking or for use with mountain bikes. The area is stunning and a suitable base for artists, many of which live here. Paintings of local views are available from these artists by appointment.
Local attractions:
In addition to the Cathar castles, there are thermal spa's, monasteries, museums, animal/bird sanctuaries, deep cave grotto's and much more. Nearby Carcassonne (the guardian of southern France) and the Canal du Midi (which runs from the Mediterranean to the Atlantic) are both world heritage sites. Wine buffs will enjoy tasting their way around all the local vineyards. The famous 'Blanquette' is produced not far away in Limoux. For classic car lovers, 'les trois fenetres' have it's own collection of classic vehicles. Lagrasse, one of the most beautiful medieval villages of France is nearby, with an abbey, founded in the 8th century. To see all these attractions, a car is required but we offer airport/station transfer from Carcassonne if required.
