La Maison Des Vignes (The House of Vines) sits in the heart of the lovely village of Tourouzelle, in the sunny Languedoc Roussillon area of the South of France, within a short drive are the beaches of the Mediterranean, Carcassonne and Montpellier. Situated in the Minervois and bordering the Corbiere wine regions, this former vigneron estate dates back to the 1600’s and is built in the traditional stone typical of the region. The architect-designed, newly renovated barn conversions have created 3 spacious gites which have all the character of the old stone walls, high ceilings and original wooden beams, combined with all the comforts and ‘mod cons’ that will make your stay here all the more pleasurable. There is also a heated pool in the landscaped, walled gardens. Whether you wish to soak up the sunshine by the pool or the beach, enjoy the fabulous food and wine of the area, play golf, cycle or walk, you are sure to discover your ‘joie de vivre’ at La Maison Des Vignes.

Access to the gite is via stairs to the large terrace that overlooks the walled gardens. The terrace is set up for outdoor dining & has a gas BBQ. The spacious lounge, dining & kitchen area has wooden floors & high vaulted ceiling with exposed beams. There is a large sofa, seating area, an indoor dining area & a fully equipped kitchen. Bedroom 1 has a king-size bed, chest of draw’s & wardrobe, as well as large French windows that provide access directly onto the private terrace. Bedroom 2 has a king-size bed (the room can be made up with 2 single beds), table d’appoint & wardrobe. The mezzanine level has a large galleried landing, which overlooks the living area. There is a day bed which can convert to a king-size bed. Bedroom 3 has a high sloping ceiling with exposed beams, a king-size bed (the room can be made up with 2 single beds), table d’appoint & wardrobe. There is also a bathroom on each level.

La Maison Des Vignes is located in the centre of Tourouzelle, a characteristic French village and opposite the front gate you will find the village shop and the post office. Tourouzelle also has a taxi service, giving you more opportunity to try the local wine at the many fantastic restaurants in the area. Wine production is the main activity within the village and you can walk to the village’s three different wine domaines. The wide sandy beaches of the Mediterranean are only 40 min drive and if you fancy a change from the beach, then head towards Lac de Jouarres only a 5 min drive from La Maison Des Vignes, or if you prefer you could cycle there instead. For those who prefer to be on the water rather than in it, the historic Canal du Midi is less than 3 km from La Maison Des Vignes. As well as the many Cathar and Medieval castles in the area, there are also many Abbeys to explore. The Cities of Carcassonne, Narbonne, Beziers and Montpellier are within a short drive

  • La Maison Des Vignes has a special offer for our guests of a conversion rate from our euro prices of 1.25 euros to the pound. Once here you will also benefit from the fact that this is a relatively inexpensive area of France.

    Prices are for 7 nights starting on Saturday (4pm) and finishing the following Saturday (10am).

    Inclusive of electricity, cleaning, linen, bathrobes and towels (including pool towels).
    Bikes and golf clubs are available for guest use at no extra charge.
  • A deposit of 25% of the rental is required when booking. The balance of the rental is due 8 weeks prior to arrival.

    In the event of cancellation of a booking within 8 weeks of arrival, the full cost of the reserved accommodation will be charged and will be refunded only in the event that all cancelled accommodation is re-let.

Within easy access of Tourouzelle are several golf courses that golfers of all levels will find rewarding. From the beautiful setting of Mazamet golf course in the Black Mountains to the course at Carcassonne with wonderful views of the surrounding countryside.

Walking and Cycling: Enjoy walking amongst the spectacular scenery of the vineyards, the Black Mountains or for the more adventurous the Pyrenees are a short distance away. Many local villages, including Tourouzelle have marked walks that cover different types of terrain and are suitable for walkers of all different levels. The immediate area around Tourouzelle offers endless possibilities for anything from a short ride up to full days mountain-biking or road cycling. Cycle routes will take you through the vineyards of the Minervois and Corbieres wine region and for the keen cyclist you can follow in the cycle tracks of the previous years Tour de France.

Wonderful relaxing holiday

We had a wonderful relaxing time at La Maison des Vignes, which is situated in the heart of a peaceful village. It is a beautifully renovated barn conversion and Jonathan and Suzanna were relaxed, welcoming and attentive hosts. Their knowledge of the area provided endless places to see and things to do, as well as great restaurant recommendations. There is a winery practically on the doorstep where you can taste and buy the local wine. The beauty treatments on site were enjoyed by several of us - a real treat. All this if you can tear yourself away from the lovely pool. We stayed in Lavande, a lovely gite with a covered terrace for eating outside. Only one improvement we can think of and that would be to install air conditioning in the loft bedroom as this did get hot at night.

A great way to relax in France

The property is very well restored with some lovely touches to make you feel at home, robes in the rooms, pool towells and a good supply of essentials so you don't have to buy mountains of useless stuff in the supermarket. The pool area is ideal for relaxing and having fun with the family. Restaurants, bars and shops are a drive away but we enjoyed staying in, BBQing and sampling the local wines in the comfort of our own space. Johnathan and Suzanna are extremely welcoming hosts and ensure that you are really well looked after from the moment you arrive. The information pack is comprehensive and their knowledge of the area superb. They really are part of the local community which means you have access to wonderful experiences like the village festivals in July and August and dinner at the Mayor's house. Visiting the local vineyards is a must and you even get a private tour!! Great location for many airports and fabulous places of interest - A great holiday destination!! Enjoy!!

The complex ie pool area etc was actually better than it looked in the photos and was a very pleasant place to be. However we felt the seating area needed to be improved as the concrete looks unsightly and the matresses were dirty and also wet when we arrived.There was no mention that the property was reached via steep ladder style stairs and I think this needs to be mentioned in the description. The property was modern,clean and spacious and generally met our needs. As the weather was warm in August the property was very hot especially the upper floor and I think an air conditioning unit is required. The fridge was inadequate for a property sleeping up to 8 people.
The owners provided a good service and we particulary enjoyed our meal cooked and hosted by the mayor. The welcome drinks evening was a great idea to break the ice with follow guests. The beauty treatments delivered by a visiting therapist were excellent and great value.
We didnt venture far but enjoyed the relaxing pool area most of the time. However we did visit Carcassonne and found this to be an interesting day out, we also had a good meal in Homps.
We would recommend the gite to friends and would consider visiting again. It is a great place to get away from it all and relax in a traditional French village.
Owner's Response: We always appreciate feedback from our guests and can advise as follows:
The mattresses were wet when the guests arrived due to the heavy thunder storm that occurred on the Saturday evening, we admit that they are showing signs of wear, hence we will be replacing these for next summer. We have also decided to replace all fridges this year with larger units and these will include a larger freezer compartment.
We will also add a picture of the stairs onto our website so that future guests can see the access to Gites Lavande and Coquelicot (we are even considering moving the stairs for Gite Lavande to the other side of the terrace so that they are not so steep). Finally with regard to the heat, we do advise all guests to keep there doors and windows closed during the day to stop the heat from coming into the gites, with the thick stone walls this should help to keep it cool. However we will be looking into adding air conditioning for next summer and the minimum we intend to do is add ceiling fans in the bedrooms.

Having thoroughly enjoyed two previous visits we returned with our extended family - 12 of us in total and we took Lavande and Oliver.

Our visit this time was in May and even with, at times, appalling weather (even the locals had never seen rain like it) we once again fell in love with the charm and slow pace of life. We enjoyed revisiting some of the places in visit one and two plus the local food and wine that never fails to deliver.

As ever the accommodation and all round hospitality from Suzanna and Jonathan cannot be faulted. I am once again sure that we will return.
