La Maison Des Vignes (The House of Vines) sits in the heart of the lovely village of Tourouzelle, in the sunny Languedoc Roussillon area of the South of France, within a short drive are the beaches of the Mediterranean, Carcassonne and Montpellier. Situated in the Minervois and bordering the Corbiere wine regions, this former vigneron estate dates back to the 1600’s and is built in the traditional stone typical of the region. The architect-designed, newly renovated barn conversions have created 3 spacious gites which have all the character of the old stone walls, high ceilings and original wooden beams, combined with all the comforts and ‘mod cons’ that will make your stay here all the more pleasurable. There is also a heated pool in the landscaped, walled gardens. Whether you wish to soak up the sunshine by the pool or the beach, enjoy the fabulous food and wine of the area, play golf, cycle or walk, you are sure to discover your ‘joie de vivre’ at La Maison Des Vignes.

Access is via secluded gardens & to the front of the gite is a large terrace that is set up for outdoor dining & has a sturdy table & chairs & gas BBQ. From the terrace you enter the spacious (41m²) lounge, dining & kitchen area which has wooden floors, high vaulted ceiling with exposed beams & original exposed stone wall. There is a comfortable sofa & seating area, TV, DVD & CD players & an indoor dining area. Bedroom 1 has a comfortable king-size bed, table d'appoint & wardrobe, french windows lead onto the terrace. The en-suite bathroom has a powerful shower, WC & basin. Bedroom 2 has a king-size bed (the room can be made up with 2 single beds), chest of drawers & wardrobe. The adjacent bathroom has a jacuzzi bath, powerful shower, WC and basin. Bedroom 3 is in a separate courtyard annex and has a king-size bed (the room can be made up with 2 single beds), chest of drawers & wardrobe. The en-suite bathroom has a powerful shower, WC and basin.

La Maison Des Vignes is located in the centre of Tourouzelle, a characteristic French village and opposite the front gate you will find the village shop and the post office. Tourouzelle also has a taxi service, giving you more opportunity to try the local wine at the many fantastic restaurants in the area. Wine production is the main activity within the village and you can walk to the village’s three different wine domaines. The wide sandy beaches of the Mediterranean are only 40 min drive and if you fancy a change from the beach, then head towards Lac de Jouarres only a 5 min drive from La Maison Des Vignes, or if you prefer you could cycle there instead. For those who prefer to be on the water rather than in it, the historic Canal du Midi is less than 3 km from La Maison Des Vignes. As well as the many Cathar and Medieval castles in the area, there are also many Abbeys to explore. The Cities of Carcassonne, Narbonne, Beziers and Montpellier are within a short drive

  • La Maison Des Vignes has a special offer for our guests of a conversion rate from our euro prices of 1.25 euros to the pound. Once here you will also benefit from the fact that this is a relatively inexpensive area of France.

    Please note the above prices are for renting Gite Olivier as a two bedroom unit, for prices as a three bedroom unit the rates are the same as Gite Lavande plus a €85 supplement. During July & August Gite Olivier can only be rented as a three bedroom unit.
    Prices are for 7 nights starting on Saturday (4pm) and finishing the following Saturday (10am).
    Inclusive of electricity, cleaning, linen, bathrobes and towels (including pool towels).
    Bikes and golf clubs are available for guest use at no extra charge.
  • A deposit of 25% of the rental is required when booking. The balance of the rental is due 8 weeks prior to arrival.
    In the event of cancellation of a booking within 8 weeks of arrival, the full cost of the reserved accommodation will be charged and will be refunded only in the event that all cancelled accommodation is re-let.

Golf: Outside of the hot summer months of July & August, the weather is ideal for a round of golf. Within easy access of Tourouzelle are several golf courses that golfers of all levels will find rewarding. From the beautiful setting of Mazamet golf course in the Black Mountains to the course at Carcassonne with wonderful views of the surrounding countryside.

Walking and Cycling: Enjoy walking amongst the spectacular scenery of the vineyards, the Black Mountains or for the more adventurous the Pyrenees are a short distance away. Many local villages, including Tourouzelle have marked walks that cover different types of terrain and are suitable for walkers of all different levels. The immediate area around Tourouzelle offers endless possibilities for anything from a short ride up to full days mountain-biking or road cycling. Cycle routes will take you through the vineyards of the Minervois and Corbieres wine region and for the keen cyclist you can follow in the cycle tracks of the previous years Tour de France.

The site was set in the middle of a quiet village with local shop on the doorstep, set in a landscape of vines close to the Canal du Midi. Everything was very clean, and the owner organised a get to know your neighbours drinks party on Sunday evening which was a good ice breaker. The provision of bicycles enabled us to have a very relaxed view of the local countryside, and the swimming pool area was an oasis of calm.

With two young children our stay at La Maison des Vignes couldn't have been more perfect. Thoughtful family accessories such as bats and balls, buckets and spades, parasols and a well-equipped picnic hamper meant that each day out ran without a hitch. The children's paraphernalia however did not compromise on the luxury of the gites, which were of a very high standard, especially Gite Olivier which with its own garden offered privacy and additional space. Jonathan and Suzanna made us very welcome and provided us with some great tips for memorable days out - La Franqui Plague, Homps (with its great restaurants) and Ribaute. The holiday lived up to and beyond our expectations, we would certainly recommend La Maison des Vignes to our friends and family.

Beautiful property with lovely swimming pool in a lovely area. We were made very welcome by the owners and also by the people in the village.

If I have one criticism is that more china and cutlery would have been helpful. We kept having to fish plates out of the dishwasher to wash them to use!

But overall a really lovely holiday place which I would thoroughly recommend.

Family holiday bliss

Jonathan & Suzanna made everything easy about this holiday. From our last minute booking enquiries to provision of all the neccessary bits and pieces in the accomodation, including a cot, bedding and baby towels for Olivia.
It was lovely to sit an chat over a bottle of local wine on one of first evenings there. We were made to feel very welcome and at home and our hosts provided lots of suggestions of places we might like to visit, the best family friendly beaches and so on.
Our accomodation was light and airy, clean and well appointed. The bathrooms are beautiful with excellent showers and a spa bath that the kids loved! The heated pool was lovely and the security gates all around meant that we knew the children couldn't access it alone. The only drawbacks of Gite Olivier with crawling/toddling babes are the steps of the deck and the steps up to the back gate.
Tourouzelle is a delightful sleepy French village surrounded by vineyards. The shop provides the basics and some very fine croissants and pain au chocolate. There are two Caves, which I confess we did not visit.
La maison Des Vignes is ideally located for both the beaches and the mountains, being about halfway between the two. We spent a few lovely days on the beach and a few exploring caves and mountain woodlands. You can also visit castles and forts (and of course Carcassone)- we had fun filling Flynn's imagination with tales of knights and dragons which connected all these places together for him!
There are plenty of local practical facilities a short drive away too - supermarkets , local markets (a lovely way to spend a morning picking up, local produce for lunch).
All in all we had a very relaxing week in a beautiful place. I would highly recommend it to anyone seeking the same.
