The Etaing de Marseillette is one of France's hidden secrets. The beautiful area lies close to the canal du midi about 20 minutes from Carcassonne. Once an inland lake, today it is the site of a rich farming tradition with apple orchards, plums figs and cherries even rice and of course vineyards. Surrounded by the wild garrigue countryside the air is full of the scent of thyme and rosemary in the summer. It is a paradise for nature lovers, cyclists and walkers, especially suited for children. For those interested in wine there are many exciting new wineries close by to discover. We are a short drive from the dramatic Black Mountains as well, and in winter only an hour and a half from the ski resorts of the Arriege.

Wonderful place for family and recovering

Monae Norway
Review Submitted: December 3, 2008 Date of Stay: July 2007
We spent two weeks in the cottage and had a wonderful time! Lovely house, fantastic garden and pool - indeed very cosy and private. Perfect place for friends and family. Our children had their time of their life with all the toys left for them to play with. And we played ping pong;-) The owners are very friendly - and we enjoyed fresh vegetables from the garden nearly every day. We will be back! Enjoy!

Best wishes, Mona from Norway
Owner's Response: As Monae says we have lots of toys and games for kids so if you come with children save space in your luggage and please don't bring too many of your own as we have board games, books, films and toys galore for all ages and sexes. There is also a giant trampoline for mums and dads as well as kids. We encourage our guests to make use of the kitchen garden for tomatoes, salads and herbs and there is even an allotment from where we can supply other fresh vegetables. Alex and Pipa

Languedoc Experience

JSI London, United Kingdom
Review Submitted: September 20, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
We spent one week in late August 09 and had a marvelous time. The Manor House and small villa were in excellent condition and very clean. The pool and gardens were very well kept. Both were well equiped with everything we needed - plates, utensils, books, DVDs, and TOYS for the little ones. The Owner was extremely helpful throughout and helped arrange cooks to come prepare fabulous dinners which just added to the experience. We found the location to be almost ideal - minutes from Carcassonne and Trebes, but also minutes from some great Minervois towns and about 1-2 hours from some of the most famous Cathar castles. There was something for everyone - adults and children alike. The medievel church adjacent to the property does have bells that ring regularly, so if you are a very light sleeper, this could be a challenge, otherwise it adds to the charm. We highly recommend this property.

Recommend it's Beautiful, Peaceful & Unspoilt.

HSS Nottingham, UK
Review Submitted: August 23, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
13 of us just returned from a wonderful two week stay in the Chateau. Alex, Pippa and their children made us feel very welcome and have a done a fabulous job in creating a lovely family home in a beautiful, unspoilt part of France. We immediately felt very chilled and relaxed. Carcassonne is well worth a visit, especially the castle at night with lots of restaurants and little shops. The Lac de la Cavayère is a must. The kids all swam in the warm lake and the men fished! The weather was superb, never under 30 degrees and we all took advantage of the pool. The local area and surrounding villages are beautiful, it's like stepping back in time. We managed a trip to the large beach at Guissand and parked on the sand and spent a lovely day there. If you are looking for a water park would perhaps give Aqualand a miss - it's in the middle of a holiday complex. very overcrowded and expensive - the queue's for the TWO eating places were unreal. If you want a relaxing holiday in a beautiful, unspoilt part of France, in an authentic Chateau, with lovely local restaurants, then this is the place to be. The pictures on the website are exactly as they are in reality and we wouldn't hesitate to recommend this property. Thank you Alex and Pippa for letting us stay in your lovely home - satnav did a good job in finding local supermarkets and restaurants - did we miss the information book in the house though as there may have been other local activities we could've done - had we had time, inbetween sunbathing and swimming in the pool!!

Cottage in Aigues-vives

Lou & Col Farington, Leyland
Review Submitted: July 5, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2009
Date of stay 26-29 May'09 2adults 1child (6)

We had a lovely 3-day stay here at the cottage and the owners Alex & Pipa were most welcoming allowing our little one to have free pick and use of some of their childrens' toys and DVDs. As we knew we would be isolated we stocked up with amenities and found it quite relaxing to cook for ourselves and relax watching a DVD in the evening. There is plenty of space in the cottage with lovely shower room, comfortable bedrooms, dining facilities etc. The pool was inviting especially on a hot day! Our son enjoyed playing with the 2 youngest children and Pasha the dog who he still misses and talks about.

The bakery in the village is excellent for breakfast ie croissants, fresh cakes and bread and the little bar in the village was most welcoming, going out of their way to find a bottle of wine for us. The area surrounding the cottage is beautiful and well worth a walk round, and everybody we passed were friendly.
Thank you Alex & Pipa for a lovely stay and all you help and for making us feel part of your family.

Peace and quiet in Aigues-vives

Review Submitted: June 16, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2009
We returned to this delightful cottage in May, having spent two weeks there in September 2008.
We were not dissapointed. The cottage is very clean, comfortable and well equipped.
The owners, Pipa and Alex, could not be more welcoming and helpful but they are in no way intrusive. Their children are delightful.
We love the area. Carcassone is a short drive away. The Black Mountains are very accessible as are the Pyranees.
Aigues-vives lies in the Etang de Marseillette which is fascinating and well worth exploring.
Our personal favourite is the Canal du Midi which we ended up visiting, even for a short walk, on most days.
We enjoy the cottage being in the centre of the village with lovely bread and croissants and other supplies available from the local shop. There are super markets a short drive away in Trebes.
A lovely cottage in a really interesting and beautiful area. I am sure we will return.
Gina and Steve
