Photos and Description of this Cuxac-Cabardes holiday cottage
2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, sleeps 4

Our lovely beamed cottage with garden and parking, was renovated in 2005. It sleeps 4 in one twin bedded and one double room. Situated 20 mins from medieval Carcassonne, with its quaint, narrow, cobbled streets, open-air market, and magnificent walled citadel, film set for Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves. Flights direct to Carcassonne are available from Stansted, Liverpool, East Midlands and other UK airports with Ryanair, or into Toulouse with Flybe. The cottage is in a pretty village an hour from the Med, and day trips are possible to Andorra and Spain. Wonderful walking literally from the door, horse riding, swim in one of the nearby bathing lakes. Or try the “degustations” from some of the local vineyards – this is the most prolific wine-growing region of France, after all. You might take a bottle back and sit on our balcony with a glass of wine, look out across the wooded valley and watch the buzzards hunt their prey, or simply relax with a good book on the terrace in the garden.

Guest Comments: Mrs Filbey: We enjoyed our stay very much. Your cottage is lovely and it was ideal from which to explore the area, even though we did not get to everywhere we planned - there is just so much to do and see in the region and we seemed to be 'going somewhere' every day. Ms Morris: Easter was too short to spend at your lovely cottage, such a pretty and friendly village and so much to do in the area - we will be booking again as soon as we can!

Ulla Attwood Thank you very much for the holiday we had in your cottage in Cuxac Cabardes. We had a wonderful time. The area is very interesting with many places to visit, and of outstanding natural beauty with the mountains, forests and lakes, a walkers’ paradise. ....everyone was friendly towards us........ ....Nothing was too much trouble for Anne, who looks after the cottage, she gave us many tips about where to eat etc. As she is English there was no problem with the language, as I have to admit, with shame, that my French is non-existent....

.... It was the first place we had rented where we could move in and settle down immediately, and not have to run around trying to find a shop where we could get all the little things necessary to make life

comfortable. They were already there, nothing was missing.

......I can thoroughly recommend this cottage and the area. We had a great holiday

Other Activities:

Caving, winetasting, paper-making, golf in Carcassonne, ancient chateaux and the Canal du Midi

Helliwell Family We had an excellent time at the cottage it is lovely and in such a wonderful location we even popped into the estate agents at the top of the road to see if there was anything we could buy, on reflection though that is something we will now look at maybe in a year or so!! The cottage itself was excellent, clean and very well furnished with a very pleasing amount of space. ....... Your key holder Anne was very helpful and polite. ...... Again I would just like to reiterate how much we enjoyed your cottage and our stay in Cuxac and we have already been recommending it to family and friends. July 06
Meg & John Nicholson We had such a fantastic time. You have a lovely, lovely home - we didn't want to leave. We think Carcassonne is one of the most beautiful and atmospheric places we've ever visited, and the weather was brilliant (27 degrees when we left on Sunday afternoon). The children enjoyed getting out and about - we had some lovely walks in the woods in Cuxac.

lovely cottage in Cuxac Cabardes

Review Submitted: April 27, 2011 Date of Stay: April 2011
Lovely cottage and an ideal base for touring the region. The cottage had everything we needed and the owners friends in the village were very helpful in supplying any info we needed. Villagers were very friendly.
The view from the bedroom windows was lovely to wake up to on a morning. We had a very relaxing week here and would recommend the cottage to anyone wanting to explore this lovely area of France.

Everything we wanted

Review Submitted: April 22, 2011 Date of Stay: April 2011
Les Coquelicots is perfectly situated for exploring the Montagne Noire and Minervois areas, close to Carcassonne. The spectacular castles at Lastours are within 20 minutes driving distance, and the cottage makes an excellent base for visiting Cathar castles, mediaeval hill towns, abbeys, vineyards, the Canal du Midi, stunning landscapes - you'll be spoilt for choice. Cuxac Cabardes is an attractive and homely village and the people there are very friendly. The village baker is a two minute walk from the cottage - which is a bonus. The cottage itself is very comfortable, well maintained, looks out across a valley and hillside, and has everything you could possibly want.
A week wasn't long enough - we felt that we only scratched the surface - and we will definitely return.

Our Autumn Break at Les Coquelicots

Review Submitted: October 14, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2009
We found the cottage to be clean and well looked after. The cooking, heating and plumbing facilities were excellent, and parking just down the road was never a problem. There was plenty of space for our needs, and the rear garden was delightful. The instructions in the house, and the tourist information provided were particularly useful. A local English resident welcomed us and ensured that any problems could be resolved. The local grocers and bakers were within walking distance, and Carcassonne was 20 minutes drive away.
I would recommend a holiday here to any friend or relative without hesitation.

May 2009 at Cuxac Cabardes Cottage

Review Submitted: August 24, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2009
Although my review is a little late i still have great memories of a wonderful holiday in this quiet, picturesque, rural village. The cottage was lovely, very pretty, spaceous and comfortable. We all loved the garden and patio where we sat most afternoons and evenings in the warm sunshine listening to a cuckoo calling for a mate. I adored the chickens at the back who i kept fed with scraps.
The little shop in the village was well stocked and the people very friendly.
We loved the views of the allotments and the keen gardeners there every day.
We found many walks around the village and up through the woods coming out into fields with lovely views of the countryside.
A must place to visit is Carcassonne with its Fairy Tale Castle and Lastoures with its many small Turrets
We also marvelled at the wonderful array of wild flowers everywhere.
We would recommend the cottage and area to anyone and hope to make a return visit one day.
