En Rouger is a 200 year-old farmhouse with 4 self-catering gites created from the farm buildings. Each gite is spacious and comfortably furnished and ideal for family holidays. It is situated just outside the village of Labastide d'Anjou, 10 minutes from Castelnaudary (famous for its cassoulet) and only 40 minutes from Carcassonne and Toulouse and their airports. 5 minutes away is the Canal du Midi, where you can walk or hire bicycles and within 20 minutes are two lakes for walking or sailing. The pool is fenced in accordance with latest French regulations and has a beach entrance ideal for toddlers. The property is set in 2 acres of peaceful grounds overlooking fields of wheat and sunflowers. In addition to the pool there is table tennis and also swings, slide and sandpit for children.

This 3-bedroom gite has its living space on the first floor and the sleeping accommodation on the ground floor, making the bedrooms refreshingly cool in summer. There is one large double bedroom, another with a double bed and a single, and a twin-bedded room. Also on the same floor are a shower room, a bathroom with full-size bath and a cloakroom with loo and washbasin. Upstairs is a huge living area with a kitchen, dining table and two sofas, all with wonderful panoramic views overlooking the sunflower and barley fields at the back and the grounds and swimming pool at the front.

En Rouger is situated in the rolling Lauragais region, with easy access to all manner of places and activities. The Canal du Midi is only 5 minutes away by car and Castelnaudary, home of cassoulet and the Foreign Legion, 7 minutes away. The Cassoulet Festival at the end of August every year is great fun. Within 40 minutes are the town of Carcassonne, with its famous walled city dominating the lower town, and Toulouse, la Ville Rose, full of character with museums, cinemas and wonderful shopping. The Mediterranean is just over an hour away, as are the foothills of the Pyrenees, with white water rafting and other outdoor activities available there. Dotted around the area are the Cathar castles which tell of the region's turbulent history, while the attractive medieval bastide villages, such as Revel, Mirepoix and Foix, all with bustling weekly markets, offer another glimpse of its past.

A special holiday home!

We found En Rouger by accident as you do looking on the web. But I must say that having been to stay 3 times within 18 months and booked again to go summer of 2008 we now treat it as home from home. There is everything you require in the gites even down to little plastic spoons for baby food! This self-catering holiday is incredibly relaxing even with children! Plenty to do around the area (only about half hour to Carcassonne) but a car is a must even just to go to the big super market. Caroline and David are lovely and are there to help and advise if necessary. Their dogs are part of the holiday too and will welcome you with wagging tails!
The pool from our point of view with children is brilliant. The safety net around it means kids can play in the grounds of the gite and you don't have to worry about them falling in. Surrounded by counryside - you can't even hear any cars this is one of the best,safest places I have stayed in.
