En Rouger is a 200 year-old farmhouse with 4 self-catering gites created from the farm buildings. Each gite is spacious and comfortably furnished and ideal for family holidays. It is situated just outside the village of Labastide d'Anjou, 10 minutes from Castelnaudary (famous for its cassoulet) and only 40 minutes from Carcassonne and Toulouse and their airports. 5 minutes away is the Canal du Midi, where you can walk or hire bicycles and within 20 minutes are two lakes for walking or sailing. The pool is fenced in accordance with latest French regulations and has a beach entrance ideal for toddlers. The property is set in 2 acres of peaceful grounds overlooking fields of wheat and sunflowers. In addition to the pool there is table tennis and also swings, slide and sandpit for children.

Le Grain d'Orge is on one level, and therefore ideal for families with young children or people with mobility problems, although not having wheelchair access. The bedrooms are cool in summer and have plenty of storage space. The living area is very spacious with the well-equipped kitchen situated at one end and doors out onto the terrace at the front.

En Rouger is situated in the rolling Lauragais region, with easy access to all manner of places and activities. The Canal du Midi is only 5 minutes away by car and Castelnaudary, home of cassoulet and the Foreign Legion, 7 minutes away. The Cassoulet Festival at the end of August every year is great fun. Within 40 minutes are the town of Carcassonne, with its famous walled city dominating the lower town, and Toulouse, la Ville Rose, full of character with museums, cinemas and wonderful shopping. The Mediterranean is just over an hour away, as are the foothills of the Pyrenees, with white water rafting and other outdoor activities available there. Dotted around the area are the Cathar castles which tell of the region's turbulent history, while the attractive medieval bastide villages, such as Revel, Mirepoix and Foix, all with bustling weekly markets, offer another glimpse of its past.

Holiday home with a Differenct

We visited this holiday home for the first time in 2007. We have a severely disabled daughter and I can honestly say this was the only holiday I have had when I felt relaxed and really at home. The Gite is large enough to cater for a young disabled person although the walkway up to the front door is pebbled, with grass just beyond. The owners are very friendly and helpful in every way and you cannot fault the property and pool. We enjoyed it so much we are returning in August 2008. Well worth a visit if you enjoy a relaxing holiday with lots of lovely scenery. My 12 year hold absolutely loved the owners two dogs and that she could swim at 9 in the evening with the pool lights on.

Perfect retreat for all the family

Just returned from a fantastic fortnight at En Rouger, our 2 bedroom gite was ideal for us (2 adults and our 17 month old). Our son was so well catered for - lots of toys, high chair, changing mat, swings, sandpit and of course the swimming pool. Being all on one level meant that we could relax while our son could play safely. The property is very secluded and peaceful with some amazing sunsets at the back of the gite. Enjoyed exploring the area - especially cycling along the canal and driving around the lovely medieval villages. En Rouger comes highly recommended, the owners are so helpful, we will be back!
