Canal View cottage - Our favourite place !

We have visited Canal View Cottage five years running, which should say it all !
It is the perfect place to unwind & relax. The gites are extremely well equipped & comfortable, and the heated pool is fantastic.
Its location overlooking the canal is perfect. The lock provides great entertainment watching the boats go through & you can always use the free bikes provided to cycle along the tow paths.
There is plenty to see & do in the area - from the very touristy, but unmissable La Cite to small ancient villages, with their excellent markets.
The road network is excellent so larger cities, the coast & the Pyrenees are all easily accessible.
We have also combined a week at the gite with a short stay in Barcelona ( approx 3 hours drive away , but also linked by train I believe) and also with a few nights on a campsite on the coast, both of which we have enjoyed.
We fly into Carcassonne airport using Ryanair, although there are several other low cost flight options. The airport is great, especially on the return leg, when you can have a meal in the restaurant as you await your plane ! The change over days are usually flexible, which is very helpful.
Ken & Pauline are excellent hosts, and are always on hand with helpful advice & suggestions. They are also happy to recommend & book restuarants, which is invaluable in high season. There are plenty of leaflets in the gites with suggestions of places to visit, as well as helpful comments in the visitor's book.
I would particularly recommend the accommodation to families with children. Kids love the pool, the swings, chickens & the two gorgeous dogs. My two children love it so much that they refuse to go anywhere else ! It is ideal for two families holidaying together as you have space when you need it, and the ability to meet at the pool & barbeque together in the evenings, in a safe environment.
I cannot recommend the gites highly enough for a relaxing chilled holiday, with many sight seeing & sporting activities available if required, although those without a car might struggle, as might those with disabilities.
