At the edge of a lovely village in the south Minervois of the Languedoc, right alongside the spectacular Canal du Midi & only 15 mns away from the famous walled Medieval City of Carcassonne. Both are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. We offer 2 fully equipped independent gîtes each sleeping 4 + Cot, which can prove to be an ideal base to explore the many attractions in and around the area. HEATED SWIMMING POOL 10m by 5m (32 x 16ft) with Roman Steps. Both gîtes share the relaxing pool which is set in approx. 2 acres garden. Sun lounger’s are provided around the pool on the decking and tiled surround, offering spacious sunbathing area with extensive views of the hills and vineyards. Private off road parking in gated garden. 2 Independent gites with own patios for BBQ and sunbathing. Ideal location for visiting the many attractions or just soaking up the sun. The Mediterranean Sea and beaches are 40 mns drive. Chic boutique shopping in Toulouse and Montpellier. 1 hour from Spain.

Olive Tree Cottage has a south facing patio for sunbathing and relaxing overlooking the garden towards the pool and the hills in the distance. Around the front of the house (this is alongside the canal) you can stroll along the tow-path of the Canal du Midi and watch the boats navigate their way through the lock. The gîtes are in the grounds of very friendly British owners who will respect your privacy. Upstairs, the gîte offers a double and a twin bedroom. Towels and bedding provided. There is a rain head shower, washbasin + hair-dryer. Downstairs there is everything you need for a relaxing holiday away from home. Open plan area downstairs includes a sitting room area with sofa, armchair,TV/ DVD/VHS & discs, Radio/ CD player. Dining table & chairs with a kitchenette offering all facilities. A full-sized 4 ring cooker with oven / grill and a large fridge/freezer. All crockery, cutlery and tea towels are provided as well as a microwave/ dishwasher/toaster/Coffee filter/washing machine

The village of Marseillette is midway between Carcassonne and Olanzac in the southern Minervois region of the Languedoc. It sits between the Canal du Midi and the river Aude. A typical French village following alongside the Canal du Midi which is extensively used by hired boats & privately owned yachts and barges. It's a fabulous location for seeing the area or if you need your batteries recharging then you don't need to travel too far to see authentic French life. Trebes close by, (approx.7 mins drive) offers all the necessary facilities such as; Grocers, petrol, supermarkets, chemist, newsagent, banks etc. All major stores and supermarkets are found in Trebes & Carcassonne. There is a mini supermarket in Capendu only 2 kms away open 6 days a week and sells most items. Marseillette is a great base for exploring the beautiful countryside and discovering new local wines. Cathar history, Beziers, Minerve, Caves / Grottos, Narbonne & the Mediterranean Sea, Spain are all closeby.

Notes: Pets are considered and there is no extra charge. We ask all guests who wish to bring dogs to keep them off the furniture and not to leave the animals alone in the gites or allow them in the pool. Please clear up after your dogs both in the garden and in the local area. Remember that in France, the restaurants will normally allow dogs inside or outside as long as they are well behaved and discreet. Large garden to the rear of the property where the pool is located. For children, we also have a frame with 2 swings and a climbing rope. Regular flights to Carcassonne airport but also easy access from Toulouse, Montpelier, Nimes, Perpignan & Beziers airports. Girona is a major discount airport in northern Spain and is only less than 2 hours drive away so why not benefit from flying from your local airport in UK and have a leisurely drive over here to reach us. Golf breaks: Carcassonne has a beautiful 18 hole Par 71 - 5,758 metre golf course playable all year round with views of the Pyrenees and which is only a 20 minute drive away. The clever use of the ground configuration has allowed to give each hole particular personality and technical characteristics, thus offering players a pleasant, varied and competitive course. There are several lovely Golf Courses throughout the region examples being Toulouse, Mazamet, Montpellier all about an hours drive away. Why not mix a round of golf and some historical sight seeing into one holiday? Half sets of clubs can be hired for 8 Euros on site and rounds of golf are approx 42 Euros per person or 70 Euros per couple. 2 Euors per bucket of golf balls on the driving range. Great bistro restaurant overlooking the 1st Tee !

Half sets of clubs can be hired for approx 10 euros. Trolleys and electric Buggies can also be hired. A round of golf costs around 50 euros each or 80 euros per couple. The Golf Club has a great informal restaurant situated on a terrace overlooking the 1st Tee. 3 course Lunch price is around 16 euros per person

Tranquil spot for new parents and baby

We have a 4 month old daughter and spent a week at olive cottage in late September. The location is ideal if you have a baby as its near the airport but still quiet and peaceful. We really liked being next to the canal as you can go straight out for walks on the towpaths with the buggy and little one loved the watching the ducks being fed and adults enjoyed watching the boats navigate the canal. The cottage is well equipped and Pauline and Ken provided a travel cot for baby along with plenty of advice on the local area. We had a lovely week and would definitely go back again - late autumn was just right temperature wise as well, enough sun for us but not too hot for baby.

Owner's Response: It was great to have Mark, Fran & Isobel stay with us and shows the flexibility of our property for all ages. The Canal du Midi certainly offers plenty of entertainment watching the boats sail by and causing havoc in the lock outside the house. It emphasises that this is a beautiful region to visit all year round and not just in summer. The autumn colours in the vines are spectacular. I know they appreciated the closeness to Carcassonne and not having to travel too far to visit the villages and also enjoying a day at the beach. Hope to see you them back again.
