Labecede-Lauragais holiday cottage "Les Armengauds" in Labécède-Lauragais

We have holidayed in rental properties for several years and this is by far the best so far. Set at the end of a country track in the middle of sunflower and wheat fields – it’s wonderfully tranquil and the farmhouse is exceptionally well equipped. It is the ideal place for a holiday where you can really recharge your batteries.

It is situated in an ideal location for exploring the region. The local town of Revel is lovely and Carcassonne / Toulouse are within easy reach (only about 40 minutes away). Other towns of interest include Mirepoix (picturesque but quite “English”); Castelnaudary (home of the famous Cassoulet); Limoux and Bram.

As you are in Canal du Midi country, there are fantastic canal cycle rides (nice and flat – so good for the whole family), and boats for hire or canal trips if you fancy the more relaxed pace!

The house itself is very well appointed and easily accommodates two families. The kitchen is well equipped – from a food processor (for making baby’s food) to espresso maker! The pool is a great size and the fact that it is generously heated means that the children (and adults!) can literally spend hours in it! The surrounding garden area is very large so great for the children to run about in and play games. The children’s play area is nicely sheltered so again plenty of use was made of it during our stay. For those competitive boys (and dads) the table tennis (in the open barn) is ideal for dry or wet weather competitions.

The owners showed us around on our arrival, and then allowed us to relax with their complementary drinks and nibbles. A real welcome after a long journey! They were easily contactable during our stay; great at advising of things to do and places to go and generally very pleasant to deal with.

If you are lucky, as we were you will be there during the 14th July celebrations. The firework display over La Cite de Carcassonne were unbelievable – I have never seen such an amazing display! But get there early!

Have had a great holiday. It's been great having no contact with the outside world at home. No news. No work. Just what the Doctor ordered after a stressful few months.

The House was excellent, so are the surrounding views. The kids loved the pool and Kate - aged 5 - finally managed to swim without armbands.

During our stay we had many outings: Carcassonne, Toulouse, Nimes, Narbonne beach, caves near Carcassonne, wine tasting at Terra Vinea (a must - they're generous with the wine) Cite l'Espace in Toulouse - again a must. Our children ranged from 2 - 14 and they all loved it. And not forgetting Revel market on Saturday morning and the lake at St Ferreol.

Getting in touch with owners was never a problem. Thanks again for allowing us to have such a great holiday in your home. Couldn't fault it at all. Sufficient space for all 8 of us.

This is a fabulous holiday home, which is larger than we expected from the photographs. It has been beautifully decorated and is well furnished and equipped. There is an excellent, heated swimming pool with plenty of sunbathing areas surrounding it, as well as large grounds for the children to run about in. The views are wonderful as is the peace and tranquility

The farmhouse is in a very quiet location near to Revel and also Castelnaudary as well as various other pretty villages in the locality. The nearest lake is about 6 km away and we enjoyed a bracing swim as well as a spot of windsurfing. We took our bikes and there is just loads of cycling to do here. From around the lake (nice and flat) to serious mountain biking (i.e. the Black Mountains or the Pyrenees – you choose!).

The Med sea is only an hour away and we visited Narbonne Plage a couple of times, which we found very quiet for a principal beach. If you like hiking (or skiing in winter) the Pyrenees are also only an hour away. What a place!

In summary Les Armengauds is a fantastic place to relax with or without friends, or to have a full, activity-packed holiday!
