Further details for this holiday farmhouse rental in Saint-Ferriol, France

SITUATION - : The property is situated on a quiet lane which forms part of the famous pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostella. With very little traffic, it is safe, peaceful and ideal for a walk or a morning jog past fields of sunflowers, vines and grazing cattle with their baby calves.

WILDLIFE -

From your window you can see a wealth of wildlife such as red squirrels, hares and dozens of species of birds, including egrets, owls, kestrels, woodpeckers, kingfishers and hoopoes. Children love to feed the fish in the pond and see and hear the big green frogs.

During the warm evenings you can watch the bats accompanied by the sounds of the crickets and nightingales.

SURROUNDINGS -

The Lauragais area is farming country and the home of the famous blue dye woad. There is a happy atmosphere about the place, in unison with its welcoming architecture – picturesque hilltop villages, lively small market towns, ancient stone farm buildings and dovecotes, all set in a rolling countryside of gentle hills, fields of sunflowers and waving corn.

MARKETS -

Our local market is listed as one of the best in France, but within an hour’s drive you can find a different market for every day of the week. You can’t help but work up an appetite as you stroll round the colourful stalls with their beautiful displays of delicious local produce.

On the terraces of small restaurants or in grand establishments awarded Michelin stars, you can enjoy delicious characteristic specialities that reflect local produce - foie gras, duck, charcuterie and the famous cassoulet, all accompanied by excellent local wines.

WINE -

Wine dominates the Languedoc region and has been produced here for more than 2000 years. Well known areas such as Minervois, Corbieres, Fitou and St Chinean.

As you drive around the Languedoc, you will see numerous signs reading 'dégustation' which means you can stop and taste wines, and if you like what you taste you buy direct from the producer, sometimes at a significant discount.

White wine enthusiasts can gather in Gaillac as this lovely small town in the Tarn boasts a dry, fruity white AOC wine.

Beyond Expectations

Review Submitted: December 26, 2010 Date of Stay: August 2010
Our family had the most amazing stay at the Farmhouse - indeed a holiday to remember! We had no idea when we booked just how perfect a place it would be to relax for 2 weeks - the accommodation is fantastic, the grounds are so beautiful and interesting and Steph and Jules are truly fabulous hosts.

The pool area is just perfect and the protected, undercover space meant we could relax there for hours with our newborn without worrying about the heat. The pond provided hours of entertainment for our toddler - the fish were very well fed during our stay!

We had no idea how much there was to explore in the region and La Terrasse is the perfect base. We never ran out of things to do and we just can't wait to return!

Great base for exploring the South West

Review Submitted: September 13, 2010 Date of Stay: September 2010
We really enjoyed our week's stay at La Terrasse. The description on the site if anything underestimates the charms of this rural retreat. The farmhouse has every convenience you could wish for and has been tastefully restored. The swimming pool is great and there is even a large, natural pond for peaceful contemplation. The area has plenty to offer, from the relatively undiscovered villages and historic bastides of the Lauragais to the more well-known attractions of Carcassonne and Toulouse. We would certainly recommend this property, not least for the extremely helpful and welcoming hosts and their relaxed, friendly approach. This is definitely one to revisit!

Better than "Home from home!"

Review Submitted: April 5, 2010 Date of Stay: March 2010
My husband, teenage son and I stayed in this lovely farmhouse for one week. We felt very welcome, and were able to relax and enjoy the warm ambience. The wonderful wood burning stove was well used, as we arrived at the end of one of the coldest winters in Europe for many years.

We visited some of the myriad of local medieval towns, enjoyed the lake at St Ferreol, and cycled around quiet roads of the Black Mountains. We are keen road cyclists, and found plenty to do! We were too early for many cafes, but found a good tea room in Les Cammazes. Later in the season you'd have more luck.

At the Farmhouse, the outside space is just as thoughtfully laid out as the interior, with tables and chairs on both sides of the property to capitalise on the sun (or shade!) You're not overlooked by anyone, just the wildlife.

Others have mentioned many benefits that I shan't repeat, but just to say they all give a true reflection of a holiday here.

Stephanie and Jules are very talented people with great taste who have created a first class gite. Highly recommended!

Lovely La Terrasse

Review Submitted: November 16, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2009
My wife and I, and our 16 month twin toddlers spent two weeks in La Terrasse. Right from the start, Stephanie and Jules were so accommodating. This was our first trip with young toddlers, and Stephanie was pestered with emails concerning the quality of the water, the availability of fresh milk, directions to the nearest supermarket, and the ferocity of the mosquitoes. (There aren’t any mosquitoes.) She always responded quickly and accurately.

When we arrived, we were super surprised to see two cots and two high chairs for the twins. Even the stair rail had been child-proofed! For the adults, our hosts had provided champagne, pate, pompete, home-made jam. Stephanie and Jules are wonderful hosts, and pay attention to every detail. They even bought spare nappies in case we arrived late.

We stayed in the farmhouse, but also visited the stables. They are all beautifully decorated, and painstakingly restored. I have to agree with one of the other reviews that the photos don’t do it justice. The farmhouse is very well equipped, with dishwasher, washing machine, wireless internet access, hi-fi, television, and dvd. The kitchen is also well kitted-out with enough pots, pans, knives etc to make meal preparation easier. The property is very spacious, and the pool is beautiful.

We had a wonderful holiday. It was very relaxing and refreshing. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend visiting La Terrasse to anyone, and our thanks again to Jules and Stephanie.
