CARCASSONNE

Located at the heart of the Toulouse-Montpellier-Barcelona triangle, at the crossroads of two major traffic roads dating back to the most ancient times, from the Atlantic to the Mediterranean, from the Cévennes to the Pyrénées mountain range where the Aude has its source, Carcassonne blooms in the plains of the lower valley, inviting you to walk in and out of its streets. Discover its history, its local cuisine, its wines, or simply enjoy the scenery. From the Bastide Saint-Louis to the medieval Walled City, Carcassonne offers a wealth of monuments to visit and discover! You can take a leisurely stroll along the streets and be charmed by the buildings and the people you'll meet along the way; or you can be accompanied by the interpretative guides from the Tourist Office, who are intent on restoring the memory of their city. All paths are open for your visiting pleasure!

South West France

This area of France provides a multitude of activities and places to visit. There are the historic towns of Toulouse, Beziers, Castelnaudry, Pezanas, Montpellier, Nimes, Narbonne plus the many medieval and hill top villages. The wine, fruit and many local festivals are waiting for you. In July and August, there are many festivals and concerts in Carcassonne itself. In the winter, there is skiing in the Ariege and Pyrenees with the nearest ski resort about 1 ½ hours drive. Walking and climbing in the mountains, winter and summer, is an alternative. For those who like the sun, sand and sea, there are many resorts near Narbonne about 1 hours drive away. There you can also enjoy fish and shell fish meals at very reasonable prices.

Travel to Carcassonne

Driving to Carcassonne is perfectly easy on the French Autoroute system from Calais, Cherbourg or other Channel Ports and also from other parts of France, Belgium, Germany, Spain and Italy. There are daily flights by Ryanair from Stansted, UK to Carcassonne and Montpelier; also from Brussels to Carcassonne. In addition, there are flights by British European, British Airways and Air France to Toulouse and Montpellier from London Heathrow and Regional Airports such as Birmingham.

A cosy house in a convenient location

j_m_lamb@yahoo.co.uk, -
Review Submitted: May 21, 2008, Date of stay: June, 2007

The house is well situated midway between the citadel and the town of Carcasonne. The rooms are comfortable, but quite small. The courtyard is a real suntrap, with comfortable loungers. The owners are very welcoming, supplying you with the necessary basics when you arrive, and more! A good base for exploring the region. We did not have a car, and the railway gives good access to Toulouse and the coast. However, I suspect a car would be better, as you could explore the the more rural areas.

Owner's response:

This is one of many satisfied guests who have stayed in our cosy and 'friendly' house during the past five years. Carcassonne has a wonderful ambience, both in the walled city and in the Bastide. Both are within ten minutes walk of the house!
