Puivert holiday villa: Puivert

We have stayed in this property for the past two summers, once as a party of 5 and once as a party of 8. The property is exactly as described, very comfortable and in beautiful surroundings. The pool is excellent with plenty of shade if needed. The garden is huge, with plenty of grass for games amd shared for sitting out. Service was excellent. The neighbours are very friendly and helpful.
The position is excellent, very secluded but a 10 minute(if that) walk from the village of Puivert. The baker is good and the small supermarket perfectly adequate with larger shops at Chalabre only 10 minutes by car, or 20 minutes by bicycle. The area is excellent for walking and cycling and the lake at Puivert(and its snack bar) good fun.
Wednesday evenings at the lake are great for eating out al fresco, very informal and good simple food. The Afghan restaurant has original food, very good, and pizzas which, I have no doubt, are equally good.
Our party varied in age from 80+ to 8, with 3 children 11-15. All had a great time. The oldest member of our party was quite ill (nothing to do with the house or area) and the doctor and pharmacy in Chalabre were both excellent.
There are plenty of things to do - aerial parks near Quillan, canoeing on the Aude, cycling on the roads or the old railway from Mirepoix or plenty of more hardcore mountain biking if you like it. Mirepoix is lovely to look at (the centre) but too busy for me.
I have been to Carcassonne on a number of occasions, to the airport or the modern town but have never wanted to go to the medieval city. We did this year and loved it! It is touristy but it is very interesting and good fun. I recommend it, though I think it would be very hot indeed on a hot day.
In short, loved the house, love the area and will be back. We have never been back to the same house in France two years in a row before - we did here. That must say something.
