Languedoc-Roussillon :
Languedoc-Roussillon is France's southernmost region bordered by Spain, Andorra and the Pyrenees Mountains and boasts everything from mountains and rivers to lakes and the Mediterranean Sea.
The region has a long coastline of virtually uninterrupted white, sandy beaches and picturesque fishing villages and ports. Water sports including wind/kite surfing, sailing, canoeing, diving and water skiing can be found on the coast whilst activities such as cannyoning, mountain biking, rock climbing, horse riding, white-water rafting, hiking and golf are also available nearby. The ski resorts of the Pyrennes mountains are just a 90 minute drive away.
The local area offers lots of family activities and days out such as the underground caves at Ville-Franche (40mins), the little yellow train that travels up the Pyrenees mountains (40 mins), a fantastic African safari park with over 3000 animals (15 mins) as well as a whole host of adventure and water parks (20 mins).
culture:
The local culture is brought to life in carnivals and festivals, such as the traditional celebrations of the bull in the nearby Catalan towns and villages, the fishermen’s festivals at Gruissan, Sète and Bouzigues; and traditional maritime jousting tournaments at Sète and Mèze. During July and August music festivals are held in most towns and villages.
