Near Carcassonne - Stunning villa with heated pool and wonderful views

Montclar more than exceeded our expectations for a holiday let. We visited for a week end of Aug/beginning of Sept and everyone had a great time. There were the two of us, our 2 daughters, husbands and 3 young grandchildren. The layout of the villa is ideal. We had the upstairs and the rest went downstairs which had 3 en suite bedrooms and a 2nd kitchen. Early breakfast was downstairs. My wife and I enjoyed a quieter, later one upstairs. Think it was an arrangement that made everyone feel comfortable. Everyone would then have lunch together on the balcony and the grownups would have their evening meal there after the kids had gone to bed. The evenings on the balcony were magnificent. Clear skies (we even saw satellites passing overhead) and warm evenings meant we were able to stay out there late. Us lads did the cooking and found more than we needed to help us in the kitchen and naturally the BBQ had a run out (nothing burnt). We normally did our shopping in Limoux where there is a LeClerc and a Netto store just as you enter town. The Netto is open on Sunday mornings.
Sky TV is provided and while TV is not normally used much on holiday it was good to be able to catch the Test match and even the rarity of a good England football match. The swimming pool was used every afternoon and enjoyed by all 9, some even before breakfast. A secure top to the pool meant we had no worries about accidents.
There are plenty of places to visit locally. We enjoyed Castelnaudary and the Canal du Midi basins, Limoux and a walk around the old town and of course local winetasting. I went in the day before to check (at the big Cooperative wine caves) and they arranged a visit to the caves and wine tasting in English. And we were the only party. The short trip on the Canal du Midi from Carcassonne was worthwhile and we particularly like walking around the Carcassonne used by the locals.
Because we had small ones with us we ate out at lunchtime in the main square in Limoux. It is ideal for this as when the kids got bored they could have a run around the square.
We would warn you about the campsite bar down the road. One couple was going to go in the evening so we confirmed with them that it would be open. It wasn't and our daughter was told "sometimes the guy just doesn't turn up". So don't rely on it. As it turned out they went into Limoux instead and their was a special market on there in the square.
