September in Ventenac

YMM Lanarkshire, Scotland
Review Submitted: October 14, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2009
I will start by saying that we were so impressed by our stay in Ventenac that we are now in the process of rebooking for next year so as you can see we would have no hesitation in recommending the property if a visit to this area is on your agenda.

Details provided by the owners and on the web site were accurate and the property was as we expected on arrival. The only point missing on the web site was that we were to experience 21 days of glorious weather which allowed us to enjoy all that the area had to offer.

On arrival we were met by Malcolm who took time to explain the workings of the house and at the same time impart some of his local knowledge to us which proved most helpful at the start of our visit.

Aside from the two local restaurants, canal side bakery and excellent wine chateau, many other attractions are within cycle/ walking distance. The area surrounding the Canal-du-Midi is delightful and many more canal side restaurants are close by where lunch/dinner can be taken whilst watching the canal traffic making leisurely progress.

For a change of scenery and pace, Carcassonne, Narbonne and the Mediterranean beaches are easily reached from Ventenac indeed a visit to Spain is comfortably achievable for a day trip. However it was always nice to get back to Ventenac and relax at the property with the local restaurants only a short stroll away.

All in all an excellent way to spend three weeks in September!
Owner's Response: We are so pleased with the enthusiasm our guests have for our house and the area. It makes us so happy that others fall in love with the location as we did on our first visit.

Booking for a third year!!

Moe33 County Down
Review Submitted: January 21, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2008
Dear Nigel and Sue,
We have just returned to not so sunny Co. Down after our second visit to Villa Voila in Ventenac. Delighted to say, another fantastic holiday! Ventenac is a charming village, the locals are very welcoming. The lovely thing is that everything is within walking distance - fresh bread, wine, the Canal du Midi and superb food at the Grillade du Chateau. It would be possible to have a great time without leaving the village! That said, it's the perfect base from which to explore the surrounding area - there is so much to see! We are keen cyclists and found that this was a great way to explore. The house itself is ideal for one family. It is a home from home, comfortable, well-furnished and very well equipped. Consequently, we have booked for the third consecutive year and are already looking forward to our next visit!
Many thanks, David, Moe, Katie and Fiona

A week in September

JBPOW N Yorks, UK
Review Submitted: January 20, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2008
Stayed at Ventenac second week of September 2008: too late for home grown cherries, but just right for the plentyful supply of apples and fresh figs from the trees in the garden! The weather was excellent for sightseeing and there is plenty to see; Narbonne (15Km), Carcassonne (50Km), the famous abbey at Fontfroide (20m) and the beautiful riverside village and boating at Le Somail (8Km). Only a few mintues walk from the villa to the Cave (quite good wine at 1 euro/litre - a little more if you want to go "up market"), good inexpensive restaurant by the river and the riverside cabin for breakfast croissant.
Well equiped accommodation, charming location - strongly recommended.

Almost excellent.

The only reason we didn't rate the villa as excellent was the nearness of the next door neighbours on the pool side of the garden. Not as "secluded" as we expected.Apart from that we really enjoyed our holiday.

wine harvest in full flow

Tansy La Manche Normandy France
Review Submitted: October 6, 2008 Date of Stay: September 2008
We had perfect weather for the week with an added bonus the grape harvest going into full swing, so for us coming down from Normandy where at harvest times we have tractors the size of a small house towing a trailer the equal size, to see the mini tractors and a trailer a Norman would normally stick on the back of his car was of particular interest! There was an added edge to the harvest as the forecasters mentioned rain, so it was all very frantic for 2 days... happily it remained dry - a steady 24 - 26 degrees...perfect!

The house was very well equipped with everything you could possibly need, very well presented, fabulously planted garden, SKY free to view TV, BBQ area, well stocked book shelf and the pool... it was perfect for our needs.

Location wise the house is literally 2 minute walk from the Canal du Midi and the Chateau Ventenac Minervois plus 2 restaurants. We stocked up from the Chateau with some 2005 (reckoned to be one of the best years for a while), had a tour and had the whole process explained to us - the difference between vin du table and vintage. The grapes this year are small but the sugar content is high... looks like it could be an excellent year!

The owner Nigel was very efficient, the booking process was easy, directions and terms clearly defined, then with the managers there to see you in it was all very smooth.

We had a boating holiday on the canal 4 years ago and loved the area so much we wanted to come back, we discovered that to see it from land it was totally different, however we will be back again as some of the places you'll never tire of.
