The Cevennes National Park is a wonderful place, with mountains carved by walking, riding, climbing and mountain biking trails of every sort. Mont Aigoual is the highest peak in Gard, and the views from the summit are sensational, reaching all the way to the sea. The walk to the top is strenuous, but by no means impossible for casual walkers or serious hikers alike.

The rivers of Gard are idyllic. Gushing along gullies, over waterfalls and across rapids, and filled with crystal clear waters, these rivers are ideal for sport. Some of the best walking and riding trails follow the river, and if you walk with a fishing rod, nothing could be more relaxing. Fishing permits are easily obtained from many of the tabacs in the area, and local advice is never far away! Canoeing, white water rafting and swimming opportunities are also in good supply.

Wonderfully green and open, Le Vigan really comes to life during August and September, when the Fete d’Isis and the vast fair in Parc des Chataigniers roll into town. The whole region can be accessed from both Nimes (FNI) and Montpellier (MPL) airports, both of which are around 50km from the centre of the region. Nimes is accessed exclusively by Ryanair from Liverpool (LPL), Luton (LTN) and the East Midlands (EMA), whilst you can reach Montpellier with Ryanair and EasyJet from London.
