Agde’s black sand beaches are a delight to visit. The black sands give the coastline an absolutely magical atmosphere and are excellent for sunbathing on. The water clarity of the Mediterranean here is simply astonishing, making snorkelling and scuba diving trips some of the most invigorating and exciting anywhere in the South of France. Sunbathers soak in the endless rays on the sands of La Mole beach, whilst families tend to head towards the safe swimming waters of Rochelongue. Just along the coastline from Agde, France, is the famous seaside resort of the Cap d’Agde too, with the glorious, yet often crowded, beaches, endless water sports opportunities and all the expected facilities of a high class beach resort. Cap d’Agde holidays are most famous for the naturist quarter of the resort.

The town of Agde is filled with ancient treasures too. Largely unchanged from the 15th century, Agde is a maze of narrow, twisting streets, lined by distinctive villas and townhouses. The many ancient buildings and small market stalls give Agde a timeless feel, and the many excellent restaurants in the area are a pleasure to explore. Local delicacies include octopus pie (tielle), shell fish and stuffed mussels (moules farce).

The Cap d’Agde houses Europe’s largest naturist quarter. With 3km of nudist beaches and a town where clothes are optional, the Cap d’Agde is truly unique. The beach resort itself is perfectly suitable for families, and has excellent water sports facilities including scuba diving, under water cruises and sailing. There is even a top golf course in the area.

Agde’s Mediterranean climate provides wonderfully long summer and short, mild winters. During the long summer months, Agde’s weather is hot and dry, with little rain and daily peak temperatures of over 30˚C daily from May until October. July and August see Agde’s weather peak, with temperatures occasionally reaching up to 40˚C, whilst the short winter months still relish temperatures of between 10 and 15˚C daily.

There are actually a great number of airports in the Agde region, with Perpignan (PGF), Carcassonne (CCF) and Marseille (MRS) all offering viable options. Although there are many airport transfer options, a hire car is always useful to have when enjoying an Agde holiday.
