Pinet is a small village surrounded by vines and famous for Picpoul de Pinet, a crisp dry white wine wonderful for accompanying seafood which is served in abundance in this area. The nearest beach is a short drive away (Marseillan Plage) and is perfect for families. There are market towns all around Pinet which sell both local produce and clothing at reasonable costs. Antique shops are also plentiful. Montpellier airport is less than an hour away. The Via Domitia, an old Roman road, passes through the area and is a good spot for walks and picnics. In the summer you can watch jousting on the canals in Sete on a Sunday afternoon, take a cycle through the villages and vineyards, enjoy a leisurely lunch at one of the many restaurants or indulge in a little wine tasting. Thre is a great dinosaur park close by for the kids and Noilly Prat, the famous vermouth distillery,in nearby Marseillan for the adults. The fact is that the house is exactly as described and includes everything you'll need to make your holiday go smoothly, including an e-mail before you travel with top tips on where to go etc., and the provision of cleaning kit, washing powder and dishwasher tablets (who wants to buy big boxes/bottles of cleaning stuff when you'll only use a bit of it while you're there?). The location is pretty much perfect. You're 40 minutes from Montpellier airport, 15 minutes from the sea, Pinet village is pretty and quiet (you'll get used to the church bells after a day or so - they end up being part of the charm) and surrounded by similar places. You can't fault the customer service and when you add the 'Brenda' factor you really are set. We reckon that every holiday should come with a Brenda. She's lovely, friendly, helpful, thoughtful and a mine of local information and all at the 'bottom of the garden'. We went at the beginning of June and some of the larger local attractions weren't properly open yet but we've children of 2 and 5 and they were happy with the pool, the beach and the Sunday flea market (with bouncy castle) at Marseillan Plage, the comings and goings at the port in Meze and the Dinosaur park close to Meze. Before we travelled, we planned on heading to the amusement parks of the Cap d'Agde, we didn't make it there in the end and didn't miss it. Don't underestimate the value of a ping pong table in keeping a small boy happy (they have one outside). The on site play room provided sufficient diversion for our 2 year old when we were knocking about the house/lazing in the sun and when you need a lie in, CBeebies on the Sky TV will help out. Don't forget all supermarkets are shut on a Sunday afternoon so either get your shopping done before or get up early. Would we recommend this property to a friend? Yes, without hesitation. Where would we recommend you eat, the Quai at Marseillan Port is good value - we liked it better at lunchtime, again Brenda can steer you right. The Champion supermarket in Pezenas is just the right size, and the centre is charming - get an ice cream next to the church. If you go to Sete, make sure you get right to the centre as it's a bit industrial round the outside. Any useful info? Montpellier airport has virtually no facilities other than a toilet and an empty drinks machine on the other side of security so get your coffees and drinks in before you go through to keep the kids happy - wish we had ;-)
