Photos and Description of this Agde holiday house A Variety of property types and facilities sleeping from 2 to 8 guests each

The ancient town of Agde was originally founded by Greek colonists from the eastern Mediterranean 2500 years ago. Old Agde is composed of The main Haute Ville centred on the fortress Cathedral of St. Etienne and the basse ville centred around the churches of St Sever and St. Andre. The towns nickname is the black pearl of the Mediterranean being built of black basalt from the volcano of Mont St. Loup, now an eroded hill which overlooks the town. The main town is medieval with most of the existing houses dating from the16th century. The streets are too narrow for traffic and consequently the old town centre is blissfully quiet! All our properties are black basalt medieval town houses restored to a high standard. The properties themselves often have many original features such as stone staircases and original beamed ceilings. The properties have been restored in a sensitive way to display their medieval features and provide modern levels of comfort and luxury for guests.

Agde the most ancient town on the coast of Languedoc Rousillion is a romantic black basalt town in the heart of the wine region. Situated at the Mediterranean end of the canal du Midi and the canal du Rhone Sete on the banks of the river Herault, Agde was once a key trading port. Diverse towns and cities such as the Sete with its rough authentic charm, medieval Pezenas, chic Montpellier, or brash Cap D'Agde with night clubs, marinas and casinos truly offer something for every taste. Fantastic sandy beaches crystal clear water, wonderful local produce markets, gastronomic restaurants a mecca for water sports of all kinds. The infrastructure is excellent with the TGV running all the way to Barcelona, stopping at the station 10 minutes walk from the town centre. The modern toll motorway is superior to those in the UK and empty in comparison with the gridlocked state of English roads. There are several local airports. This region offers the best of Mediterranean France ancient and modern.

Old meets modern

Review Submitted: August 7, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
Just arrived home after 2 wonderful weeks in Agde and Rue Littre. Rue Littre is a very charming appartment in an old house in a small street in the old town. A newly renovated aparment, but the owners have managed to make it practical without loosing it's charm. The terrace is definently a pre and it is wonderful to sit there in the afternoons watching all the roofs. The property is situated in a quiet area with little noise during the nights axcept for the few nights with fireworks ant celebration of the 14.th of July.

The property was nice and clean when we arrived and all the communications before and on arrival worked out perfectly. We particularily enjoyed the bathrooms and a separate WC.

We were 2 families and 7 persons staying and we managed fine.

The property consists of 4 floors and few doors and is probably most suitable for families with children 5+ or couples and friends.

Note that you cannot drive to the door and that cars have to be parked in public carparks downtown.

The apartment is situated in the most charming part of the town Agde with restaurants in close proximity. The beaches are situated at Cap d'Agde approx 4 km from the appartment.

If you are not looking for a "fancy" and prototype holidyappartment, but is open for cherising something "real french" and authentic I can definently recommend this property to you.

My family let this townhouse in Agde for 1 week in April 2009.I say 1 week, though in fact we only stayed for 2 Days.
To say we were disappointed would be understating. Firstly there was no bed linen as advertised and requested, even the under linen on the beds had not been washed in quite a while.Cleanliness was extremely poor throughout particularly the kitchen area, the work surfaces which we tried to clean with disinfectant wipes were grim, we could not bring ourselves to prepare food there.
Crockery was also very poor, dirty and chipped.
There was an awful smell throughout the house which made my teenage daughter ill.
The house is in a very narrow street within a maze of narrow streets and is quite difficult to find, in fact the lady's son who looks after the house for the owner got lost when showing us to the house for the first time(it was dark to be fair, and there was a lot of roadworks going on in the surrounding steets).
Our one saving grace was the internet access which enabled us to find other accommodation (with a lot of extra expense) quickly which we were delighted with.
We did return to Agde a few times and found the town very charming, it is a regret we had to leave.
There are many more suitable houses in the area to let,do browse the net and don't be fooled like I was.
We have been holidaying all over France for 10 years now and this is the first time we have really been disappointed with our accommodation.

Lovely Holiday

Review Submitted: September 23, 2008 Date of Stay: August 2008
We found the climate lovely and the town of Agde a great place to be and staying in a house right in the centre was so convenient. The house is attractively furnished and free wifi is an added bonus.

The roof terrace is great for sunning although if you intend to eat up there bear in mind that the stairs are steep and the kitchen is a long way down. Parking is a short walk away so you do have to lug your cases up from there to the property.

There are street markets, plenty of restaurants (not just seafood though these predominate on the river-front) and usually a band performing in the evening in one of the public areas. We also enjoyed the spectacular firework display. Beaches are about 15 min drive away.
