Agde the most ancient town on the coast of Languedoc Rousillion is a romantic black basalt town in the heart of the wine region. Situated at the Mediterranean end of the canal du Midi and the canal du Rhone Sete on the banks of the river Herault, Agde was once a key trading port. Diverse towns and cities such as the Sete with its rough authentic charm, medieval Pezenas, chic Montpellier, or brash Cap D'Agde with night clubs, marinas and casinos truly offer something for every taste. Fantastic sandy beaches crystal clear water, wonderful local produce markets, gastronomic restaurants a mecca for water sports of all kinds. The infrastructure is excellent with the TGV running all the way to Barcelona, stopping at the station 10 minutes walk from the town centre. The modern toll motorway is superior to those in the UK and empty in comparison with the gridlocked state of English roads. There are several local airports. This region offers the best of Mediterranean France ancient and modern.
