Pros for this property is the fantastic pool area, with its pool house and fantastic views. Lovely to be able to walk straight from the property onto the "garrigue", wild shrubs and vineyards, collecting wild herbs for the kitchen. The owners are extremely friendly and helpful but very unobtrusive. Nice but small breakfast area in front of the property with an ancient tree.
Cons are strong, septic tank smells in the property, but they do come and go, i.e not all the time. Apparently the whole village has these problems and it can't be fixed.
Secondly there is only 1 toilet upstairs, which is in the en-suite so not accessible to those in the other bedrooms, unless you are very friendly! Thus you have to negotiate quite tricky stairs to go to the toilet at night. 2 shower cubicles, upstairs and downstairs very good.
The pillows were very uncomfortable - square and cheap ones. Bit of a traipse from house to pool area, meaning organisation was necessary to avoid multiple trips.
On the decor front there are far too many tasteless objects in the property- less is more. The kitchen had a huge,water softener on show but not plugged-in, an eye-sore. However a good time was had by all and the french countryside worked its charm. River swim in the Orbe was the best adventure. Canoe trip looked great- next time. Having 2 bikes at the house was good. Very quiet and peaceful setting.
Owner's Response: Very interesting criticism which shows the exceptional character of our Gite, with its large pool and mediterranean garden looking over the "fantastic" countryside and the proximity to an authentic wine growers' village.
All the buildings have been carefully restored paying attention to providing modern comforts in rustic surroundings while leaving the basic lay-out of the house unchanged. This does necessitate using from time to time the beautiful Languedoc staircase!
The imperfections noted by our last guests arenow beingseen to by recognized cpecialists - in particular with regard to the sceptic tank problem. The new water softener now functions and has been masqued from view.
As for the pillows, the "friendly and helful " owners invite their guests to select suitable ones from a vast stock. There's no need to order them through internet!
