Capestang is a beautiful 13c village on the Canal du Midi, and is surrounded by lovely vineyards and woods for walking and cycling and riding. There are lots of very good markets in this area, both for wonderful fresh fruit and vegetables and general goods. The coast is 20 mins away with sandy beaches, some excellent fish restaurants and the fish market of Sete. For history there is the ancient walled city of Carcasonne, the roman town of Narbonne, and the city of Perpignan. Montpellier, the buzzing university town, is only an hour away. Spain is only an 1 1/2 drive away and has a very different style to France. Or just sit by the pool with a book.

Fantastic Stay in Capestang

JGF123 London
Review Submitted: February 1, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2008
Spent a fantastic week here with extended family in May 2008. Capestang was wonderful - perfect size place to stay with bakers, market, restaurants, cafes and bars right on your doorstep and smack bang on the Canal du Midi for many a pleasant walk. Le Manoir was beautiful: great rooms, tonnes of space, great cooking and entertaining areas and a lovely pool and garden. Eilis could not have been any more helpful nor the local helpers. Highly recommended and hope to head back one day.
Owner's Response: Wow! It's great to hear when families have enjoyed themselves so much. That's our aim, as happy guests mean repeat guests, so everyone wins.

A good Vacation could have been Great

jkhgjb Kelowna, BC, Canada
Review Submitted: October 7, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2009
A beautifull house to spend ten days in the beautiful Langeudoc with friends from Canada.
The area is fantastic and I hope to be back for more time. The restaurants excellent, the scenery fantastic and the wine fine and inexpensive.
Our house though needs a renovation or at least a complete cleaning, we found dirty beds, peeling wall paper, very dirty kitchen, all floors dirty etc.
We came from a villa in the Dordogne (Hautefort) where the owners clearly love their property, just as clearly not the case here. Many lights burnt out, dirty drapes and the laundry facility defies description, more like a tool shed that has never been cleaned. Pool are was nice but over grown.
We made the best of things and had a terrific stay in the area. By the end of the stay the bottom five stairs of the grand staircaes became mysteriously wet with no obvious cause with no answer from our emergency contact numbers. Oh well we had a good vacation but a few details by the house owner could have made it great.
Owner's Response: I am very sorry to hear that these guests didn't find our home up to scratch. I must admit I don't understand their claim to dirty beds, floors etc. I know for a fact that all beds were changed before thier arrival, and all floors washed as they are tiled (this is the case with all changeovers). There have never been previous complaints in this regard. I admit the pool was overgrown and one of the emergency numbers given was unanswered The lady's mother had just died in the UK and she had to return at short notice. (the other number was answered, we were told the response,as was an email). All old buildings of character have their quirks, the staircase is one of them and this caused the wallpaper to peel in a small area above the first few steps. Likewise the laundry area (which is completely disinfected weekly!). To say that we don't love our property is misguided at best, I expect that we, and plenty of our guests, will have many more happy times in our beautiful home.

Great to be lords of Manoir in Capestang

ProfP Sydney, Australia
Review Submitted: June 15, 2008 Date of Stay: April 2008
We thoroughly enjoyed staying at 'Le Manoir' in Capestang. It was terrific to have a house so close to the centre of the village - no need to use a car to get fresh bread in the morning, or to go for a meal or a drink in the evening. There are some wonderful restaurants within a few kilometres drive of Capestang. But it's great to have one at the end of the street, and half a dozen within walking distance. There's a good supermarket just outside the village and for outstanding food shopping it's hard to beat the indoor market in Narbonne. 'Le Manoir' itself was just perfect for our family holiday - three generations comfortably accommodated.

Among the many plus points for us (i) plenty of bathrooms (ii) a dining table big enough for a dozen of us (and more), (iii) the really cheery wood burning stove (useful in April), (iv) efficient central heating system (ditto), (v) walks along the Canal du Midi, (vi) the market in the village square (vi) La Tour Sarrasine - our favourite restaurant in nearby Poilhes. Further afield, we'd strongly recommend Pezenas and, despite all the renovations and tourist shops, Carcassonne.

French Villlage Life

mads Ireland
Review Submitted: May 1, 2008 Date of Stay: April 2008
M.D Irl. Oct 2007 & April 2008

I have stayed in Le Manoir on a couple of occasions in Spring and Autumn. The house is amazing, very French, comfortable and chic. Great times were had by the beautiful pool area. Enjoyed the market on the Village Sq.
and the walks along the Canal. The drive to the village St Chinian, offers spectacular scenery of Mountains and Valley's. I found Capestang very central. It is within a 15 minute drive to the Beach, Narbonne & Bezier. There is one place, in particular, I would recommend, a beautiful little village called Poilhes a short drive or 45 min walk along the Canal. There we had a superb meal in the restaurant and the welcome was second to none!

Le Manior and Capestang offers a real experience of French Village life.

At the heart of a beautifull village

The Irish! Dublin, Ireland
Review Submitted: April 28, 2008 Date of Stay: June 2007
We spent two weeks in June in the main house, idealy located at the heart of the beautifull village of Capestang. The house is fantastic, with all the bedrooms nicely proportioned so that no one felt that they got the short straw in room allocations. There is also a real sense of history about the house, and in the evening the Church in the square nearby is beautifully illuminated, so an evening drink by the pool is made even more special.
What really made the holiday for us was the warmth and hospitality of the locals, we were made feel part of the community and enjoyed some great evening with the locals in the local bar/tabac located just up the road in the main village square. The loacation is also ideal, with many a long walk taken along the canal and trips to local vinyards and attractions.
