Large old house, with courtyard and roof terrace for sunbathing or eating out. The village has a bar, two restaurants, and a nearby shop/bakery, and is located at the foothills of the Cevennes, 2km from the junction of the rivers Herault and Vis. Swimming in both these rivers is a delight, and is the reason we bought the house 15 years ago; the river Vis is one of the cleanest in France, because most of its length is underground. 8 minute's walk from the house is a beautiful waterfall; the pools below it are large, and deep enough to dive in, and a few metres downstream are gently sloping shingle beaches safe for small children. The nearest town (supermarkets etc) is 4km, and Montpellier 50km.

Although this property can be rented as a whole, for a large family or two families together, it also divides neatly into two self-contained apartments, each having its own bathroom, kitchen, sitting room, place to sit out/eat out, washing machine etc., and each having privacy (e.g. lockable interior front door). So Unit B consists of two self-contained apartments; both are airy and spacious, with large rooms. Each apartment has a fully equipped kitchen, with a large fridge, four ring gas cooker with grill and oven, electric coffee maker, food processor, washing machine etc. The downstairs apartment has a shower room, and the upstairs a bathroom. Each apartment has a double bedroom, and a single bedroom with three beds. The downstairs apartment has a courtyard (connected to the kitchen and the sitting room via french doors) which is large enough to barbecue in, and eat out in. Upstairs is a roof terrace with a pergola, again with plenty of space for barbecues & eating out

The village is at the border of the coastal plain and the foothills of the Cevennes, in the Languedoc, almost equidistant between the airports of Nimes and Montpellier. It is 10 minutes by road to the nearest town, Ganges, where there are supermarkets, and a great market on Friday mornings. A small river runs through the village, and joins the river Vis, which is perfect for bathing. Beaches at Sete and Agde and Palavas (Montpellier) are about an hour and a half's drive away, but much better swimming for all ages is to be had 8 minute's walk from the house, in the waterfalls and pools of the Vis. The Herault is also good for swimming and canoeing.

Additional information about rental rates

  • Weeks run from Saturday 5pm to Saturday 10am. Normal minimum booking during summer period is 2 weeks, although spare weeks are sometimes available. A £50 key bond (returnable deposit) is required with the rent. Electricity is included in the rental from the first Saturday in May to the last Saturday in October. If you are unlucky, and the gas cylinder for cooking runs out during your stay, you will have to purchase a replacement (approx £12); however if you do have to, we will of course reimburse you for this against a receipt. The premises are cleaned for you before you arrive, and a fixed charge of 30 Euros is made for this on leaving. If you are booking from outside the UK, the full rental including ALL bank transfer charges is payable.
