Staying at L'Hirondelle you will experience a real taste of living in the south of France. It is a typical village house, renovated to modern standards with a roof terrace to spend your evenings after exploring the beautiful surrounding countryside. Combejean is a delightful, quiet little village perched on the banks of the river Vernazobres. A five minute drive or twenty minute walk, takes you into St Chinian where you will find all the facilities you might need.

Combejean is to be found 30 kilometres northwest of Beziers, in the foothills just below the Haut-Languedoc Regional Park. With the Mediterranean beaches just some 40 kilometres away, it is an ideal location for a holiday with a difference. A short drive or a twenty-minute walk takes you into the village of Saint Chinian. Tucked into the foothills of the Montagne de L’Espinouse, with the dramatic tabletop of Le Caroux as a backdrop, Saint Chinian is the centre for the wide range of quality wines being produced in the surrounding area. The village has excellent, twice weekly markets held in the tree-lined square, where you can buy locally grown produce, souvenirs, household goods and clothing. With five restaurants, bars, a supermarket, banks, butchers, bakers and newspaper shop you really should have no need to travel further afield. During the summer months there are a huge choice of activities in the village and surrounding area, with wine and food tasting, concerts, outdoor banquets

Inside L'Hirondelle: L'Hirondelle is a very bright and comfortably furnished home that will sleep four. It has a fully equipped modern kitchen, separate dining room that will seat four and a living room with TV/DVD connected to BBC etc via satellite. There are two bedrooms, the main room, on the first floor having a toilet/shower room attached. There is a further bedroom with two bunk beds connecting to the main room. On the ground floor, past the kitchen and dining room, there is a large bathroom with separate shower. At the top of the house, steps lead out to the roof terrace, which has lovely views over the rooftops and beyond to the surrounding hills. This is a lovely spot to relax and soak up the sun on the sun beds provided. It is totally secluded, with only the house martins to keep an eye on you! L’Hirondelle is not suitable for very young children or the elderly/infirm. Being an old house, there are stairs and steps to contend with. A car is advisable in order to explore the area.

We really enjoyed our stay here. The house was beautifully presented, spotless and had a fascinating layout. I would advise you to wear a crash helmet for the first few days especially going up to the roof terrace but once the critical points are committed to memory there is no problem!! We stayed with our three children and had a fabulous holiday.

The river beach in nearby Rochebrun was a great favorite with all of us and Saint Chinian has plenty of restaurants. The little hamlet of Combejean is delightful and the people were very friendly.

The roof terrace was fabulous with lovely views, the showers weren't too wishy washy, as can sometimes be the case in France.
We already have recommended the property and certainly the region to friends. There are steep steps both up to the roof terrace and down to the cellar (think ladder).

The layout of the house would allow a family of four with young children to stay comfortably. The walls on the roof terrace are nice and high, although the steps down to the basement bedroom would need a stairgate to secure them.The basement room is not as dark as its name would suggest with plenty of daylight from windows opening on to the square.
