Hi John, thanks so much for the use of your house in Aumes. We really enjoyed our stay. The house was lovely and really well equipped with everything we needed for our holiday. The kids had a great time in the pool and at the playground in Aumes. It's a lovely area and Pezenas has quaint shops and loads of nice restaurants. 3. Ann and John, some comments about the villa; we found the villa ideal, very well appointed, comfortable and perfect for a relaxing holiday. The pool was great for cooling off and the garden gave beautiful views across the countryside. It was very easy to get to the coast at Meze, a charming small fishing port, delightfully uncommercialised.

On holiday you will want to relax round the pool and for some days you may want to go further afield. This is no problem at all, you will be in one of the most beautiful areas of France, and your holiday home is only a few kilometers from the sea. You can go walking in the National Parks, follow the trail of the Cathares (you should read The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail before you come ISBN 0-552-12138-X ) and investigate one of Europe’s greatest mysteries ( and maybe find the treasure!). You can look out for the Via Domita (the Roman road running from Rome to Spain which is still visible in parts), or visit the Mediterranean ports of Meze, Bouzigues, Sete, etc and enjoy sea-food caught the same day and looking out over the fishing boats.

This part of the Languedoc is truly wonderfull, and retains much of the magic of other times.

Ther are hundreds of sites and activities, amongst them are: The Grottos, Aqualand, St. Guilhem le Desert, canoeing, sea swimming, beaches, etc etc.

Notes: The house is ideal for both the larger family or two smaller ones. Designed so that the double bedrooms are someway apart and with the two twin bedrooms in the other wing having their own bathroom. The house is very comfortable and has a relaxed atmosphere. Taking a central position is the light and airy farmhouse style kitchen with doors to the front and rear gardens. The pool is 8m. x 4 m and in accordance with the latest regulations fitted with a pool alarm. We have been complimented on the house lay-out and upon how well equipped it is, one lady was good enough to say that we would have problems with our website, because it would be difficult to explain how nice the house is. Aumes is a very pleasant and friendly village, having its own tennis court, boules pitches, small football pitch and volley ball court. All of these facilities are available to you. There is a BBQ at the house next to the outside eating area. Gated parking for 2 or 3 cars.

Further details for this holiday villa rental in Aumes, France

Beaches, tourist sites and tradition.: AUMES is about 25 minutes from the Mediterranean with its many 'Blue Flag' beaches. The nearest beaches are around Meze or Marseillan Plage, although the whole coastline is accessible and the beaches sandy. The beach at Rochlongue is ideal for younger children, having a gradual slope into the sea, and being protected by a breakwater, there are rocky pools in which to play and easy access by car. Aumes is well positioned for you to take advantage of a wonderfully diverse region of France which embraces the real spirit of France. Here you can find those classic cameo moments, so typically French which you would be excused for thinking were from an age long forgotten, but are in fact the bedrock of a society which values tradition and ‘laisser faire‘ above all else. These moments reflect the day to day life of a country which has remained true to its traditions.

We have lived in this area since 1981 and never tire of the variety it offers by way of its people, culture and tradition.

Your nearest town,Pezenas.: Pezenas, 10 minutes from Aumes is probably the most well known market town in the area where most of the houses date from the 17th century.

The Saturday market is a must, and takes over the town center. Local produce and an impressive organic farmers market.

The whole of the old town, which has officially been classified as part of the French National Heritage is original, and it is as it was when Moliere and his theatrical company used to live here. Throughout the 17th century, to be near the governors of the Languedoc province, the aristocracy built impressive private mansions with inner courtyards and gardens and have retained their charm and elegance from this bygone age. Often called the Little Versailles, Pezenas has a wide range of arts and crafts, restaurants and visits. Aumes is well situated to satisfy the needs of all its visitors; lying between mountains and sea, beaches are twenty minutes drive away and is enjoyed by the most active or the relaxed of our visitors.

Even more places to go and things to do.: You will find plenty to keep the whole family occupied and happy. Most things are available in the shops, entertainment is what you would expect from an area which mixes old and new in such a way that one does not take from the other. It’s all here, you only need to visit the tourist office and you will to find all you need to enjoy your stay. In the house book you will find all sorts of information and ideas.

From Aumes you will be able to travel to Spain and back in one day, maybe visiting the Salvador Dali museum, or stay overnight in Barcelona visiting the amazing Gaudi Cathedral.

There are dozens of visits to make. The Camargue with its black bulls, white horses and flamingos are close, you will be able to go on safari in a 4x4 with a guide. The upper Hérault river has one way canoeing. You can visit Carcasonne, a walled town with huge battlements and turrets, a really romantic town.

Most villages have their own market day, perfect to buy a baguette, some cheese and relax.

Golf:

We have a number of golf courses within easy reach, the nearst one being St. Thomas about 30 minutes away. Golfers have stayed with us and tell us that they found it very friendly, with a good restaurant.

Other Activities:

Searching out antique bargains, house hunting, trips to Spain, eating out.

Best holiday home we've stayed in!

Review Submitted: July 19, 2011 Date of Stay: July 2011
Two weeks in the south of France was always going to be a pleasurable experience, but staying at John and Ann's villa in Aumes made it extra special. The villa has a great pool and outside eating areas, and the layout of the house, including great bedrooms and bathrooms, were perfect for a group of friends away together. Writing this note on a drizzly day in London, it feels like we found a little slice of paradise.

There is a lovely little village, Montagnac, within walking distance and a larger town, Pezenas, a short drive away, for everything you could need while away. We loved exploring the area - when we could drag ourselves away from the pool!

This villa simply couldn't have been better!!!!

A really friendly house

Review Submitted: October 13, 2010 Date of Stay: May 2010
This is a superbly decorated and equipped holiday home- everything we needed. It is really friendly for the elderly or mildly disabled people- the swimming pool especially and offers lots of space. Cooking and shopping are a pleasure. Easy parking. The area offers fabulous opportunities for sightseeing, photography, restaurants and cultural actitivities, or petanque in the local village

Easter 2010

Review Submitted: October 7, 2010 Date of Stay: April 2010
The Somerville clan have returned again. Aumes and the surrounding area is even better than the last time we visited. The location is central to many great places to visit, however, the house is so good it is just as good to stay at home! A superb holiday. Thanks for everything especially accomodating us for the extra days when our flight was cancelled due to the volcanic ash, it made things so much easier for us. We will be back again to enjoy your hospitality. Colette, Colin and Chloe

French Villa in Aumes, Nr Pezenas

Review Submitted: May 31, 2008 Date of Stay: May 2008
We've just returned from an absolutely fantastic holiday in the South of France. The owners of the property are extremely friendly and helpful and went out of their way to make our holiday a memorable one. The villa itself is superb - we could find no fault at all (unusual for us British who love to complain !) We would thoroughly recommend it to anyone. You won't want for anything as it is all provided. All furniture, appliances, fixtures and fittings are in superb order. In fact, this villa is not just a holiday let, it is a home..... Superb, and we will return.
