Beaches, tourist sites and tradition.: AUMES is about 25 minutes from the Mediterranean with its many 'Blue Flag' beaches. The nearest beaches are around Meze or Marseillan Plage, although the whole coastline is accessible and the beaches sandy. The beach at Rochlongue is ideal for younger children, having a gradual slope into the sea, and being protected by a breakwater, there are rocky pools in which to play and easy access by car. Aumes is well positioned for you to take advantage of a wonderfully diverse region of France which embraces the real spirit of France. Here you can find those classic cameo moments, so typically French which you would be excused for thinking were from an age long forgotten, but are in fact the bedrock of a society which values tradition and ‘laisser faire‘ above all else. These moments reflect the day to day life of a country which has remained true to its traditions.
We have lived in this area since 1981 and never tire of the variety it offers by way of its people, culture and tradition.
Your nearest town,Pezenas.: Pezenas, 10 minutes from Aumes is probably the most well known market town in the area where most of the houses date from the 17th century.
The Saturday market is a must, and takes over the town center. Local produce and an impressive organic farmers market.
The whole of the old town, which has officially been classified as part of the French National Heritage is original, and it is as it was when Moliere and his theatrical company used to live here. Throughout the 17th century, to be near the governors of the Languedoc province, the aristocracy built impressive private mansions with inner courtyards and gardens and have retained their charm and elegance from this bygone age. Often called the Little Versailles, Pezenas has a wide range of arts and crafts, restaurants and visits. Aumes is well situated to satisfy the needs of all its visitors; lying between mountains and sea, beaches are twenty minutes drive away and is enjoyed by the most active or the relaxed of our visitors.
