Our village is St.Genies De Fontedit as featured on the TV Shows 'Richard and Judy''s and 'I Want That House'. It is surrounded by vineyards, has five wineries and is only 25 minutes from the Mediterranean beaches, the Black Mountains and the Herault Country Park. Also close by are numerous very good golf courses, the magnificent River Orb, the Canal Du Midi and the historic cities of Narbonne, Beziers, Pezenas and Montpellier. Restaurants and chateaux are plentiful and nightlife is great in Cap D'Agde and Beziers. There are also markets or boot sales every day in at least one of the nearby towns selling local produce, bric-a-brac, antiques, flowers, jewelery and even live animals! This assumes you leave the villa in good condition - in our 6 years of operation we have only had one occasion when we have had any problem.

Notes: The seven metre [23 feet] in - ground private swimming pool is new [Dec 2007] and is for the exclusive use of our guests. It is set in part of the rear garden close to the South facing patio. The pool is fitted with an alarm that fully complies with latest French safety laws.

Golf: There are two excellent and inexpensive golf courses within 15 minutes drive [St. Thomas and Lamalou]. There are also many more well within an hour.

Beaches: The nearest beaches are Serignan and Valras Plage [20 -25 minutes] which are huge, unspoilt, uncrowded and very safe. Well within 1 hour you have many others to choose from.

Cities - Site seeing and shopping: The historic cities of Beziers, Narbonne, Pezenas and Montpellier are within easy reach. They are great places in which to eat, shop and explore. Cap D'Agde is also within 40 minutes and is packed with restaurants, entertainment, marinas, night life, casinos etc etc The Herault Country Park, River Orb, Roquebrun, Minerve [famous villages] and stunning scenery are all around our village. Other possible extended day trips include Andorra, The Pyrennes, The Alps, and Spain [Barcellona, Gerona etc.]

This property was all we could have expected. It was clean, well maintained and had all the facilities we needed and there was a local person available if we had any problems (which we didn’t). The owner was very responsive to the queries we had in advance of our visit, and had taken the trouble to provide useful local information for visitors including details and phone numbers of restaurants, local attractions, markets etc.

The property was also very private and an easy ten minute walk into the centre of the village with its wineries, bakery, a couple of shops and a bar.

The description of the property was accurate, although the pool was perhaps a little smaller than we anticipated.

Within easy distance (no more than ten minutes drive) there were several villages with good restaurants, and the larger shops and shopping areas of Beziers were about a twenty minute drive.

One of the best things was that there was also easy access both to the coast and to the fabulous countryside and historic villages just to the north of the village, meaning that we were never stuck for anything to see or do if we tired of enjoying the sunshine and the pool.

We would have no hesitation in recommending the property to anyone who enjoys a peaceful holiday in a pretty location.

Sunny days at St-Genies-de-Fontedit

We travelled as two 55plus couples to the villa and were pleased to find it instantly relaxing after our long journey. It is part of a local community with tennis courts and recycling units! Lots of space and resources. There were plenty of towels, bedding etc. and an excellent washing machine. A well equipped kitchen made self-catering easy, as did the nearby new supermarket. Because of these things we did not need to eat out in the evenings at all. We particularly enjoyed the pool and paved areas around it, as we were blessed with very hot weather in July! We enjoyed outdoor eating for every single meal while were there.The bbq was used on alternate evenings. (New bbq tools may be a good idea!) Sometimes were were entertained by the ghekkos as they scuttled over the stones.The Sat TV even allowed us to watch the exciting Wimbledon finals! The local village is within walking distance with some new shops and a post office. You would need a car to fully explore the area. We made it to the coast twice in our week. The only minor issue was with the flies each evening. This was because of the heat at the time apparently. (The fly swats were useful!) The brochure description was good. All communications with the owners were easy and straightforward.The area was safe and friendly. The price was quite high but all facilities made it an easy and relaxing time. It is a property to be recommended if you want to use it as a base to travel around in that area of France.
