The village has a church, a small hotel with restaurant, two café/bars and a village shop all clustered around the village square. There are several wine caves in the village. Lac du Salagou is just a few minutes away, where equipment can be hired for all types of watersports, as well as for fishing. The area is wonderful for walking, horse-riding and cycling. Restaurants, supermarkets, weekly street markets and shops can be found in the lively market towns of Clermont l’Hérault, Lodeve or Pézenas, all a short drive away. Further details for this holiday villa rental in Octon, France

The house: Brand new for 2006, three minutes from fresh bread in the village square, garage, parking, ice maker, fenced pool, spa/jacuzzi, by stream, no through road, BBQ.

Out and About - activities around Octon: Cycling is the French national sport, so cyclists are welcomed everywhere. You are at liberty to dress up in lycra cycling uniforms identical to those worn by the other 50 members of your cycling club, and no Frenchman will find you at all humorous. Normal mortals can hire bicycles in many towns. Canoeing - there are many places where you can hire a canoe or kayak and paddle gently downstream, and then get driven back upstream to collect your car. Great way to spend a day. Golf - there are good courses in Montpellier, Beziers, Cap d'Agde and La Grand Motte, all within an hour's drive, and a nine-holer at Lamalou les Bains is an easy 30 minutes away. Windsurfers, dinghies and catamarans can all be hired five minutes away at the Lac du Salagou, or on the other side of the lake at the sailing centre in Clermont l'Herault. Walking - there are some 6000 kilometres of maintained, marked out pathways in the Languedoc. No excuses!

Out and About - food and drink: The area is particularly rich in in traditional foods of the region, and has borrowed freely from the cuisines of Aragon and northern Italy, and to a lesser extent Spain and Morocco. There is also of course a strong Mediterranean influence, even here, forty minutes inland - merchants bring fresh fish to inland markets and fishmongers every day. The Languedoc is becoming a respected producer of quality wines. Many domains already produce wines that command high prices. As you drive around the area, you will see numerous signs reading 'dégustation'. The word originally denoted the art of recognising a wine, its place of origin, quality, and age just from the taste, but now it just means free tasting. You can stop and taste wines at these places, and if you like what you taste you buy direct from the producer, sometimes at a significant discount.

Thoroughly relaxing week in the sun

Kathryn and family County Antrim
Review Submitted: July 21, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
We have just returned from a lovely week at Les Olivettes. We have been renting houses in France and Spain for many years and can honestly say that this house is the most luxurious, comfortable and well equipped house we have ever stayed in. We were lucky enough to have beautiful weather all week and spent most of our time outside on the lovely terraces at the back of the house or in the swimming pool which was immaculately clean. Even if the weather had been poor the inside of the house would have more than made up for it, with a great selection of books and games, not to mention the enormous TV - the house even has an IPod doc much to my daughter's delight! The house is on the edge of a very pleasant and lively village with a general shop (which sells just about everything you would need) a couple of cafes and a hotel with restaurant. The village also has a cave selling red wine en vrac (with containers thoughfully supplied in the kitchen!) and rose wine in bottles - both were excellent quality and very reasonably priced. I do hope that we can return some time to Les Olivettes but will in the meantime be thoroughly recommending it to others!

2nd visit as good as first

Mrs Collie Kildare
Review Submitted: June 29, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
I am just back from my 2nd visit to Les Olivettes (was there in June 2008 also) and again we all had a fantastic week. I went with 5 other people (3 couples) and we had such a relaxing week. The villa is absolutely stunning with everything you could possibly need for a great holiday. There's loads of dvd's, games, books and pool stuff.

The kitchen is so well equipped and spacious it was actually a pleasure to cook in and the guys were very happy manning the bbq every evening. The bedrooms are all fab so there were no rows about who got which one. There are more than enough sun loungers and 2 large outdoor tables on the veranda with lots of chairs.
The whole house is spotless, very well maintained and decorated lovely.

I'm already looking forward to my next visit to Les Olivettes.

Beautiful house in stunning location

Review Submitted: June 23, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
Just returned from this property and having visited many other properties in France with friends & family, we were completely bowled over by this house. When we arrived & opened the front door, we went from room to room saying "Wow" in every one. We rented the property with 6 friends, and you could always find your own space if you wished to do so, although we enjoyed sharing everything the property & region had to offer.

The house is magnificent & beautifully decorated. Outside there is a large patio area with a wonderful infinity pool & jacuzzi. Everything is in fantastic condition & the furnishings, linen, towels, crockery, cutlery & all utensils are of the highest quality. Everything that you need to make your holiday complete is provided for you. There is a huge selection of DVD's, a library of books, indoor games, and lots of pool games equipment. There are plenty of sun loungers, a shaded area on the terrace, and beautiful shrubs which attract a host of wonderful butterflies

The property is huge, with spacious rooms & a fantastic well-equipped kitchen. The 4 en-suite bedrooms are all excellent, but the master bedroom, with a dressing room has to be seen to be believed! I have never seen so much storage space in a holiday home. The upstairs mezzanine area is another lovely place to relax.

The village of Octon is within 3 mins. walk, and the cafe/bar & restaurant well worth a visit - in fact several visits! Wonderful meals, good wines, friendly welcome & service, and all at very reasonable prices. The village shop sells fresh bread, croissants & local delicacies too.

The whole area is wonderful, & there are so many places to explore & visit. but we spent a great deal of time relaxing by the pool & barbecuing in the evenings. We did manage to visit Lac du Salagou, Lodeve, Carcassonne, Gorges de L'Herault & some caves, of both the Grotte & wine variety.Three members of our party also enjoyed some of the golf courses in the area.

We did experience a slight problem with the pool, and upon telephoning the caretaker, the problem was rectified immediately by the contractors. The caretaker had also telephoned when we arrived to ensure that everything was in order & we had everything we needed - nothing seemed to be too much trouble at all.

The property has every amenity you would wish for, and we will certainly consider visiting this beautiful place again.

Return visit as stunning as before

Jo & Rob Guildford, Surrey
Review Submitted: September 13, 2008 Date of Stay: August 2008
This is a fantastic property. Tastefully decorated and furnished. Excellent facilities. The kitchen is amazing, very well equipped.

The bedrooms are very spacious, especially the master suite which is like an apartment on its own with large bathroom, separate dressing area and large bedroom.

Location is beautiful and peaceful with fantastic views. Lodeve and Claremont l'Herault are within easy driving distance for supermarkets, restaurants, etc. The local village has a little store and if you are an early riser you can get fresh croissant and pain au chocolat before they sell out!

Lots of beautiful drives and things to do in this area. Car is essential.

This is a fantastic property for family groups, friends, special celebrations or just a relaxing break away.

An added bonus is the lovely pool and jacuzzi to work off the wonderful food you'll have whilst in France whether you cook it yourself in the fantastic kitchen, on the outdoor barbeque or in one of the local restaurants.

I am booking my third visit already!

Les Olivettes

Jo Salisbury Dublin
Review Submitted: July 4, 2008 Date of Stay: June 2008
Our week at les Olivettes is by far the most relaxing holiday I have ever had. The weather was great and the house an absolute stunner! Comments like 'its like something out of MTV cribs' were mentioned! Myself and my 7 friends (4 couples) had a fantastic week.

The house itself is really well equipped with everything you'll ever need. The kitchen was a pleasure to cook in, a rare habit of mine when on holiday. The bedrooms were all large (the master bedroom is huge!) with their own bathrooms. Mattresses in house were fantastically comfortable which meant we all slept like babies all week, a very important factor on holiday!

The pool area was stunning and we spent most evenings dipping our toes in the jacuzzi with the local 'bubbles' watching the sunset. With more than enough sunbeds for everyone and a fantastic bbq the outside area is brilliant.

The village is really quaint, a visit to the local 'caveau' or 'Mas' is a must for cheap but tasty local wine. Villagers are really friendly and the tiny village square bar does great pizzas if you want a break from barbequeing!

I highly recommend Les Olivettes for a week or two of recharging your batteries.
