Pyrenees Orientales is a department in the south of France in the Languedoc-Roussillon region with a magnificent rocky Mediterranean coastline, where the foothills of the Pyrenees slide into the sea.

Places to holiday on the Pyrenees Orientales Coast

Collioure is a small Catalan harbour town nestled in the rocks of the coast at the mouth of the Mediterranean. Its location has meant that Collioure has always been highly coveted, and a rich mix of Roman, Greek, Phocaean and Crusader heritage has been accumulated. For this reason, Collioure is a magnificent looking town with Le Chateau Royal XIII, Le Fort Saint Elme XVI, La Tour de Madeloc XIII and the Eglise Notre Dame des Anges XVII all prominent on the skyline. Boat trips for both exploration of the coast and magnificent deep sea fishing leave from the harbour daily.

Saint-Cyprien has grown in the last 15 years as many French have built their holiday villas or gites for their own domestic breaks. Saint-Cyprien boasts a 6km beach with excellent windsurfing facilities and restaurants along the promenade. There are many attractions for family holidays to the coast of Pyrenees Orientales, with the large water park, Aqualand, go-carting and extreme mini-golf, as well as a an 18 hole golf course.

Argeles-sur-Mer is a bustling Mediterranean beach resort with a small town rural charm, and is the most popular beach on the Catalan Coast. The wonderful sandy beach stretches as far as the eye can see, and the waters are clear, which has facilitated some fantastic scuba diving. Activities and facilities such as go-carting, mini driving circuits, canyoning, fishing trips, casinos, and cycle paths means there is never a lack of amusement. There are also many walking and biking trails to some fabulous Catalan monuments of the region.
