More about the area.:
People from all over France come to Amelie-les-Bains for 'The Cures' at the town's famous natural Spas and Thermal baths. These natural volcanic hot springs which contain healing powers are known to cure all kinds of ailments and clients are normally recommended to spend up to three weeks at the cures which they can get on prescription from the French NHS. Most of our clients come from France as our apartments are very close to the Therms which is ideal for our clients. When I first came to Amelie I noticed there were a lot of people walking around with various different ailments but, they left Amelie in excellent health. One little boy who was 7 years of age came to stay at our apartments with his family as he had lost his hearing. After 'the cures' he was asking his Father to turn the television down. Amazing! Our apartments offer good accommodation and rates and, for some months of the year we introduce 'special offers' for clients. Amelie has something for everyone. Come to Amelie

Why not pop across the Spanish border to do a bit of shopping and have lunch or dinner at one of the many fabulous restaurants in Spain. The Spanish border is about half an hour from Amelie & there is excellent shopping in 'Le Perthus' where things are very reasonably priced. There are all kinds of shops and lots of satisfied customers who never miss a visit to 'Le Perthus' If you carry on down the N9 to 'La Jonquera' there are more shops and a fabulous buffet restaurant where you can eat & drink as much as you want for 15 euros (about £10). It is a massive restaurant that you cant miss for the queue's outside to get in & the food is excellent. There is everything you need and it is self service so you can go as many times as you like. If you want steak, chicken or fish cooked just ask the chef who is very willing to cater to your needs. You can also visit Barcelona or the Costa Brava & the scenery is stunning. Flights going into Girona have great views if you sit on the left.
Around the Canigou mountain.:
The Canigou Massif offers numerous possibilities, from an afternoons ramble to a long hiking trip with a large network of pathways. Most of them are negotiable from June to October except if there has been an early or late snowfall depending on the sector. Refuges and unguarded shelters punctuate the pathways, as well as many 'orris' (former shepherds' shacks in dry stone), small architectural works of art. The Canigou Massif is a natural, sensitive and protected area. There are strict regulations regarding the use of motorised vehicles. There is a shuttle service in four-wheel drive cars which allow you to reach the Cortalets chalet (2150m) or the Marialles refuge (1718m), both departure points to ascend the Canigou Peak which stands at 9138 feet. It can remain snow capped for most of the year and is an exquisite sight to behold. The locals celebrate the Canigou every year by lighting fires at various points and carrying a flame torch right up to the peak. Fireworks can also be seen.
Golf:
Not far from Amelie-Les-Bains there are two well known lakes. One lake is at St Jean Pla-de-Corts & is surrounded by beautiful trees & mountains. It is an ideal place to relax either in or out of the cooling water & the fishing on it's neighbouring fishing lake is excellent. The local children love to fish there with their parents & I have seen some of their catches for myself while walking in the sunshine, very impressive to say the least. There is also a smashing restaurant at the lakes where you can have cold drinks including beer & wine and choose a fabulous dish from the great menu. There are lots of activities for both young & elderly and also some water pedaloes so you can explore the whole lake at your leisure. The other well known lake is at Villeneuve de-la-Raho & this has a sandy beach and a beautiful picnic area under the shady trees. There are also lots of little restaurants to suit all tastes and also water sports to wet your appetite. It is very popular with the locals.
