Mas Pallares is an old stone (15C) farmhouse tucked into the hillside near a small stream in the Reynes valley – an idyllic, sheltered location just 5mins from the arty market town of Ceret & the spa town of Amelie. SELF-CATERING apartments and BED & BREAKFAST with private terraces. The Med & Spain within 30mins. It is an ideal location for those seeking THE CURE at Amelie which is close by. A short stroll from the farmhouse gives access to vines, cherries orchards & splendid views of Mt Canigou and the sea. This old farmhouse oozes character with its many huge beams and heavy wooden doors & terraces. In the pretty mature garden is a large secure pool, garden furniture, BBQs & table tennis. Atmospheric converted wine cave at garden level with barrel ceilings, stone walls, and even some exposed rock. There are two double bedrooms (one twin); well equipped kitchen with dishwasher, cooker, fridge, microwave, toaster etc; balustraded dining area with seating for 6; large shower room with double vanity unit, bidet and WC. This apartment has two private terraces, one smaller one with table and chairs for 4 and another larger terrace - La Terrasse au Jardin which has table and chairs for 6, also 4 cushioned sunbeds and a barbecue. This general area offers a wide diversity of attractions. It is at the gateway to the Vallespir - a region of outstanding natural beauty in the Pyrenees-Orientales, and the most southerly valley in France. It is a region of great beauty with tree-clad mountains, rivers, gorges, abundant wildlife, good wines and the earliest cherries in France. As well as being less than half an hour from the Mediterranean - with its miles of golden beaches - and the Spanish Costa Brava, the old market town of Ceret with its medieval arches and sleepy squares is fast becoming an important cultural centre in the region, having once been home to Picasso, Soutaine & Dali, amongst others. The Languedoc has much to offer historically, too, perhaps most noteworthy being its Templar & Cathar heritage, with many castles and Rennes Le Chateau (featured in the Da Vinci Code) within 1 & half hrs drive away. There is also a wealth of ancient abbeys and Romanesque architecture close at hand

  • At off-peak season times, B&B is possible in all apartments. Breakfast is served in the main salon of the house. Please refer to our B&B tariff for 2009. All rooms have private balcony or terrace.
  • During off peak times it is possible to rent an apartment for periods of less than one week, and to vary the day of arrival and departure so as to take advantage of cheaper mid week air fares.

Mas Pallares has to be set in what must be one of the most beautiful areas in France. The setting is idyllic surrounded by wooded mountains and next to the River Tech. The accomodation is well equipped, homely and spotless. Lizzie could not be more helpful whether its a restaurant recommendation, or secluded beach. Would not hesitate in recommending this accomodation to anyone

A beautiful place

I'm just back from 2 weeks at Mas Pallarès, staying in the Etable apartment. The apartment was as described, and looks possibly even nicer than on the photos as the owner has just reupholstered everything in a beautiful fabric.

Very spacious, well-equipped, clean and very warm (you do need some heating in the evening in March!). The outside terrace is lovely on a sunny day, and comes with very comfortable reclining chairs. Nice, powerful shower.

I spent a lot of time looking for cosy rather than just functional self-catering accommodation in the area (I was doing a "Cure" - daily spa treatment - at Amélie-les-Bains) and was not disappointed. In fact from my internet searches, Mas Pallarès seems to be the only "adresse de charme" in the area! Beautiful walks with gorgeous views over the Canigou can be made from the apartment without using the car. The area is reputed for its air quality, a nice change from the pollution and humidity of London. I'll be back!

A perfect holiday destination

Mas Pallares is a fantastic holiday destination. It is set in a beautiful location, close to one of the most attractive towns in France - Ceret.
We have been six times to Mas Pallares with our two teenage sons and have always stayed in L'Etable although there is a range of accommodation types to suit different tastes. There has always been plenty of things to do to keep each visit different and keep us all entertained.
You can swim, go down to the river, walk in the foothills or go further afield into the mountains to attractive towns and villages; you can enjoy enjoy the beautiful scenery or take part in the numerous outdoor activities. The coast is about 45 mins away with a variety of seaside types - busy or quiet - to suit your mood.
Barcelona, Gerona, Carcassone, bits of the Canal du Midi and Figueras are easily 'doable' in a day from the Mas as are Cathar castles and the vineyards of Minervois and Corbieres. Nearby Perpignan has excellent street entertainment on Thursday nights in the holiday season. Ceret, like many towns in Catalonia has a bull fighting season and this makes the town busy and colourful, but it is easy to avoid if it does not appeal. However there are numerous fetes de la bieres in the neighnouring towns and villages.
As for the Mas itself, it is a lovely building in a lovely garden close to an excellent pizza van and a good bakery. There are good services for your stay and each unit has its own barbecuing facilities - which make for an excellent stay. We have taken our boys there from their early to late teenage years and they have loved every visit - as have we. It is the fantastic location which makes it - and the great host.
