Village in the Albères Massif:
The apartment is a ground floor annex to a detached villa located in the centre of the picturesque Catalan village of Villelongue Dels Monts, which nestles in the foothills of the Massif des Albères, the easternmost section of the Pyrenees. The apartment has a sunny secluded garden with shared use of the pool. The locality has a good variety of shops and restaurants, and a weekly market, all within 5-10 mins drive. The Mediterranean coast (Argelès-sur-Mer, St Cyprien, Collioure, the Cote Vermeille) is 15 mins away. Walking opportunities range from gentle strolls around Villelongue, to rewarding and demanding rambles in the Albères Massif. Nearby, fascinating old towns and villages (Céret, Prades, Elne) have historic centres with ancient monuments, narrow streets and quiet squares, local shops and weekly markets, restaurants and art galleries. Villelongue Dels Monts is an ideal centre for a holiday, being close to the sea and the mountains. Winter Skiing is also an attractive choice.
La Côte Radieuse & Arrière Pays:
The resorts of Canet-Plage, St Cyprien and Argelès-sur-Mer Cote provide attractions for all tastes and benefit from spacious wide sandy beach locations along the stretch of coast called La Côte Radieuse, the southern extremity of which terminates at an intimate little beach called Le Racou tucked between Port Argelès an the eastern extremity of the Alberès Massif. The rocky coast known as La Cöte Vermeille continues to the Spanish frontier and beyond. Here are to be found the ports of Collioure, Port vendres, Banuls Sur Mer and Cerbère.
Inland there are many large lakes or Plans D'eau which offer fresh water beaches and water sports particularly at Villeneuve de la Raho. In season there is a variety of Fly and coarse fishing in spectacular scenic locations with the prospect of the big Trout or Carpe amongst many other species. For the lover of ancient history ther are many splendid sites to visit such as Serrabonne, St Martin de Canigou and the Cathar Chateau de Queribus.
La Côte Vermeille:
Collioure is internationally famous for its picturesque scenes beloved by generations of artists, its narrow shady streets in the old town crammed with fascinating shops and galleries. The town is dominated by the Chateau Royal, a former royal residence for the kings of Majorca and which still houses the training units for the French marines. It seems hardly necessary to say that the town is blessed with a large number of excellent restaurants and bars with fascinating opportunities for the universal pastime of sipping a cool drink while people watching. The town is surrounded by vine-covered hills cupping a calm bay with three safe swimming beaches. Continuing southwards, Port Vendres is a fishing and commercial port with excellent restaurants and a whole sale fish market open to the general public. Banyuls sur Mer is a classic mediterranean seaside town. Along the coast there is a number of small coves and pretty bays with accessible beaches such as Paulilles.
