This lovely old stone village house is situated in the old town of Le Boulou with the famous church bell and art gallery in front and the river behind, in the heart of this sunny southern town. Although central, it is situated in a quiet area with the local bakeries, shops, bars and good restaurants nearby. There are three Logis of France in the area serving superb local dishes, one of which is within ten minutes walking distance from the house. The house has been newly renovated, sleeps eight and has stunning views over the mountains. There are three floors to the house and it will sleep eight adequately if required with three bathrooms. There is a self contained apartment at the rear of the house with access both from the terrace or from the road behind. This can be let as a seperate unit or with the house. If let as a seperate unit there is no outside space for the apartment but mountain views, river access and the possibility of sitting outside the front door. NO SMOKING

The house has three /four bedrooms: single & double/twin on the top floor:double &single on the middle floor plus a double sprung sofa bed in the studio on the ground floor.The top bedroom has a lovely balcony overlooking the mountains with a bistro table and two chairs to sit and admire the view. Each room has wardrobe and drawer space and has been renovated throughout. There is a shower room with wash basin, large walk in shower and toilet on the top floor. The middle floor has a newly built shower room with large walk in shower, toilet, washbasin and electric heated towel rail. There is also a satellite TV and a CD player and lounge furniture and sofa. The lower floor has a washing machine, dishwasher, microwave, 2 refridgerators, gas hob and fan oven.There is a sprung double sofa bed, dining table for eight, lounge chairs, wardrobe, chest of drawers and satellite TV plus en suite shower room with toilet and washbasin. The room also has a sunny conservatory leading to a sun deck

This area is a walker’s paradise and Le Boulou itself is very close to the famous GR 10 footpath which crosses the Pyrenees from east to west. The colours are wonderful all year and the Canigou Mountain and the Alberes Mountains dominate the horizon. The town itself is a small town with lovely restaurants and bars and a lively street market on a Thursday in the town centre. There are numerous fiestas all year, especially the famous water festival celebrating the towns claim to fame at the hot springs in the town. The town of Ceret with its famous Modern Art Museum is close by and Collioure with its wonderful coastline and fish restaurants is twenty minutes drive by car. Spain, the Costa Brava and Barcelona are within easy reach on the motorway from Le Boulou south and the Cathar castles, Carcassonne, Montpellier, Narbonne and Perpignan, north. The river is just below the house and there is a walkway/cycle path to a swimming lake and a fishing lake just twenty minutes away.

  • The top floor double bedroom has a king size double bed which can be split into two single beds. There is a large wardrobe, chest of drawers, bedside cabinet and reading lights. Patio doors with shutters open on to a small balcony with bistro table and two chairs overlooking the mountains. The single bedroom has a wardrobe and there is a small child's bed available as an extra bed with a window overlooking the mountains. The third bedroom on the middle floor has an extra large double IKEA sprung mattress sofa bed as the room has a satellite TV and can be used either as a lounge area or third king size bedroom. There is also a single bed and a small baby cot available. The lower studio has a double IKEA sprung sofa bed, wardrobe and chest of drawers in the living area.

WALKING/cycling: There are numerous local walks and also guided walks available all year from the tourist office in Le Boulou. They are graded and run by local guides into the mountains, coastal areas and over the frontier into Spain. Please ask for the website link and the grand route 10 is very close to Le Boulou. There is also a good cycle path from THE BACK OF THE HOUSE DOWN TO THE RIVER AND ALONG THE RIVER PATH TO THE LOCAL SWIMMING LAKE AT ST JEAN PLA DE CORTS - 15 MINUTES

SKIING: Font Romeu is just two hours drive from Le Boulou via the road to Prades and Andorra to the pistes of the CERDAGNE. There is plenty of scope for both experienced and beginners plus cross country skiing.

GOLF: The nearest golf course is a nine hole course at Amelie Les Bains but experienced golfers might prefer the new course at St Cyprien on the coast or the wonderful course at Falgos high in the mountains with a magnificent view of the Spanish coastline and luxury hotel and spa. Check the website.

Great house in a fantastic little village- we've loved every minute of being here! We were lucky enough to be here for Bastille Day and enjoyed all the celebrations in the village,including the dancing and fireworks. A pity we couldn't stay on for the Fiesta weekend. Also really enjoyed looking around the local area especially Ceret, Collioure, Prats de Mollo and Castlenou. We also went to Carcassone but it was very touristy and the local area was better. Many thanks to Lynda and Simon for being so welcoming and friendly when we arrived . Maybe we will get back one day !

We have enjoyed a superb two weeks in your house.

If you like walking (not the flip-flop kind) try any local tourism office for local walks. We have walked around Le BoulouO and Ceret and much of the coast between Argeles and Banyuls sur Mer . Also along the Sentier Littoral which was wonderful. All of the paths were well sign posted and the scenery fantastic. The best beach for cxhilling out is Le Racou just twenty minutes from the house. We found the best croissants at the first boulangerie on the right in the Rue Arago near the house.He also sells the best rose and red wine from Claira. The best cheeses were found at the thursday market stall just next to the house -especially the brebis or sheeps cheese . Number 31 was perfect and we do hope to return to Le Boulou which was very French which we loved. It was so nice to stay in a house with a lived in family atmosphere and we loved the garden !
