310 sunny days a year!:
The twin towns of Collioure and Port Vendres are the perfect antidotes to each other. The one a fashionable resort with hectic market days on Wednesday and Saturday and restaurants, galleries, shops and bars open throughout the year - the other a friendly fishing port with a deep water harbour and yachting marina and its newly restored Port Vendres Plage with beautiful gardens and easy parking.
Collioure and Port Vendres are charming and unspoilt by mass development. They have a rich artistic heritage: Matisse, Picasso, Dali and Rennie Mackintosh who made Port Vendres his home. You are also a short drive from the museum of modern art at Ceret and, just over the border, the Dali towns of Figueras and Cadaques. We can claim 310 sunny days a year and a year-round climate where lemons grown on trees and some of the clearest water for diving and snorkelling in the South of France. The area is perfect for walkers, art lovers, wine buffs and water sports enthusiasts.
Visit at any time!:
In the bustling hot summer months you will be glad of the extra space and reserved parking the apartment offers. We are on the Collioure side of Port Vendres and have an easier walk into town than from many of the residential areas of Collioure above the main road. Outside the high season you can enjoy the region at a slower pace. May, June, September and October can still be sunny and warm enough for swimming - but the roads are clearer and the shops and restaurants are less crowded. Port Vendres rarely feels out of season.
On a winter's day you can set out for long treks through the vines or take a brisk cliff-top walk from Cap Bear to the Baie de Paulilles (our favourite summer swimming spot). There is also a spectacular walk down to Banyuls. With Port Vendres a port and fishing village and Collioure an established tourist magnet you will always find a bar and a restaurant at the end of an exhausting day's activity in this richly varied corner of French Catalonia.
Comfortable accommodation:
The apartment is unusually light, sunny and spacious for the area with lots of room and a vast, comfortable sitting room and terrace. It's one of five in a small, well-appointed block. You won't need to rush out in the morning - just take it easy. Relax in the garden or on the terrace with a coffee in the morning before popping down to the harbourside boulangerie for your croissants. Afterwards you can walk into Coilloure or Port Vendres for lunch at the water's edge. If you enjoy exploring there are many different walks from the apartment - within minutes you can be in the hills behind Collioure where it can seem like you'e in the heart of the Pyrenees. Or take the stunning walk from our local beach around the headland, finishing up at Port Vendres' famous fish market. Whether your day is spent rambling, sightseeing or lazing on the beach you can come home for an aperitif on the terrace were you can sit relaxing as you plan your evening's entertainment.
