A spacious, comfortable apartment in the beautiful small spa town of Vernet les Bains, nestled in the foothills of the Pyrenees. This corner, first-floor apartment has its own private entrance and balconies and large terraces on two sides. The south-facing terrace gets the sun all day and provides a wonderful area for eating out or just relaxing in the sun. There is plenty of patio furniture and a built in barbecue for alfresco eating. Inside, the property is well furnished and fully equipped. The apartment is opposite the parks with children's play area, tennis courts and, in the summer, an open-air swimming pool. It is a few minutes from all the amenities of the town. It is wonderfully situated for touring and exploring this unspoiled corner of Catalonia, with easy access to both the French and Spanish sides of the Pyrenees, the Mediterranean coast and the Costa Brava. In a wonderfully relaxing environment surrounded by magnificent scenery you can do as much or as little as you like.

Vernet is set in a beautiful environment in the foothills of the Pyrenees yet is so accessible. The town offers shops, bars, restaurants, two banks (ATMs) and three market days a week in the town square. A maze of winding streets lead up to the church and castle overlooking the town. Exploring locally, or touring the wonderful surrounding area is equally rewarding. Mountains, lakes, vine and fruit-laden valleys, Cathar castles, Romanesque abbeys, Mediterranean beaches, Spain and Andorra await you. Day trips can take in Carcassonne, Barcelona and the Costa Brava and Vernet is within easy reach of excellent ski resorts. There are daily bus services from Vernet, and trains from nearby Villefranche de Conflent to Perpignan and to the Mediterranean coast, including the spectacular ‘Petit Train Jaune’ into the mountains. There is lots of information in the apartment to help you enjoy and make the most of this rich and varied area which is wonderful all year-round.

Additional information about rental rates

  • Prices are quoted in £stg but €-payment bookings are also taken. Prices are for parties of up to 4 people. For 5th & 6th person there is an additional weekly charge of €50 per person. Please note that while 2-week bookings are preferred during the summer period, 1- week bookings are taken, but these attract a 20% addition to the weekly rental rate. Midweek to midweek breaks can be accommodated outside high season periods to take advantage of cheaper flights. Please contact me to arrange. Prices are inclusive of all bed linen and towels, other than your beach/swimming towels. For rentals between 1 October and 30 April there is a heating supplement of £40 per week.
  • The booking deposit is 50% of the rental and is non-refundable. The balance + €150 refundable security deposit is payable 6 weeks prior to arrival. The property will be available to you on your arrival date from 16.00hrs until 10.00 hrs on departure date.

Notes: There are steps to the property which may make it unsuitable for those with walking difficulties. Well behaved children are welcome and will need to be supervised on the terraces. The delightful park with children playground, tennis courts and open air swimming pools in summer is right opposite the apartment. You will find all the kitchen equipment you could want and there is an iron, ironing board, hairdryer & straighteners. A picnic set is available for days out. In winter, a wood burning stove, electric radiators and electric blankets for the double beds will keep you cosy. For those wanting a relaxing break a car is not strictly necessary as all the shopping amenities of a small town are at hand, plus lovely parks, local walks and great hiking opportunities. Vernet's thermal spa has a health and beauty centre that can be accessed on a daily basis. To explore the area fully, though, you will need a car. A holiday here can be just as tranquil or as energetic as you choose.

Getting to Vernet by Air from UK: Vernet is accessible from a wide range of airports, using low-cost airlines from UK such as Ryanair, Flybe, Easyjet and Jet2 . Perpignan airport is 50min (Ryanair/Air France); Girona 90 min ( Ryanair and package tour flights to the Costa Brava eg Airtours, Thomson, MyTravel who offer flight-only) and Girona airport is only 3 min from the Spain/France autoroute. Carcassonne, Montpellier, Toulouse or Barcelona are all 2-3 hour easy drives. The autoroutes and excellent main roads from all of these airports to Vernet-les-Bains provide good access from whichever airport you choose. There are car rental desks at all of the airports e.g. Hertz, Europcar, Avis – all bookable via the internet, or via your airline website when you book your flights -usually at a discount.

Getting to Vernet by Rail: By Eurostar and TGV from Lille/Paris, or TGV from Paris, via Narbonne, to Perpignan rail station where there is a direct rail service to Villefranche de Conflent. From here Vernet-les- Bains can be reached by taxi or bus. There is also a direct coach service from Perpignan to Vernet. In the UK, Rail Europe in London will book all rail travel quickly and efficiently for you, either online or by telephone (08705 371371). Rail travel in France can also be booked on the SNCF website.

Driving to Vernet: You may obtain a 25-50% discount on P&O Ferry bookings via this website. Routes from Channel ports and elsewhere can be obtained either from the Michelin website or from the RAC website. Vernet-les-Bains is accessed via the excellent road to Andorra, the N116, which is clearly signed from Junction 42 of the A9-E15 autoroute (direction Prades & Andorra la Vella). From Villefranche de Conflent, Vernet is a 5km drive on the D116.
