3 Bedrooms, sleeps 6, 1 bathroom, 2nd WC, barn sized kitchen / living area

This artist's residence is shaded by huge palm trees in an enclosed garden. French windows from 3 rooms open straight into the garden. There are 3 bedrooms : 2 with large double beds , one with 2 singe beds.

Situated on the edge of the artistic town of Ceret, it is just 10 miles from Spain. You can escape from the world and sit by the pool, or in the deep shade of the mature palm trees. Nearby discover lovely riverside walks, or its only 12 minutes stroll into the cobbled street town centre, with its pavement cafes, galleries, and restaurants. The local patisserie, the butcher, and the supermarket(open late) are three minutes walk, and provide for all immediate needs.

Just 20 miles from the Mediterranean, this cottage is on the edge of the Pyrenean town of Céret, not far from the spectacular bridges over the river. Céret is a small friendly town, where both French and Catalan can be heard in the not-to-be-missed Saturday market. Spend time in the pavement cafés, discover the old medieval streets, the restaurants, the wonderful galleries, and museums; and wander along the lovely Tech valley, which winds up to the highest southern Pyrenees peak of Canigou. Ideally situated for the Cathar castles of Languedoc, the long Mediterranean beaches, forested walks of the Pyrennes (from the town - just walk uphill!); explore the wine tasting in the surrounding vineyards, or lunch in the artistic centres of Collioure ( 30 mins), Figueres (close enough for supper or the Dali Museum), shop in Perpignan, or Barcelona is only 2 hours away. Climb to the castles or explore the beach sports, waterparks, riding, and a famous Prehistoric Park. Something for all ages.

Notes: This is a single storey building which opens directly into a large garden. There is another small terrace at the rear of the house, which catches the early morning sun, but is cool and shady by the afternoon. The pool is protected by an alarm, which guests must deactivate when swimming, and reactivate afterwards. There is also a fence and lockable gate surrounding the pool. The garden contains huge shady palm trees, some exotic ferns, and some cacti and plants with spiky leaves which are not toddler-friendly. There is also a narrow stream which flows through the garden, dry in summer. In the heat of summer the generous palm-tree shade is invaluable, but for the sun-worshippers there is a sunbathing terrace by the pool, with 2 sunloungers and a selection of garden chairs. there is a hammock under the palm trees. SKIING Nearest skiing ( 2 lifts) is in the next valley at Font Romeu. The house is not normally open at this time of year, but it could be made available on request.

Further details for this holiday cottage rental in Ceret, France

Please make yourselves at home.: There is a guest book in the house with ideas for places to visit. This location is perfect as a base for exploring Languedoc, whatever your interests. One of the bedrooms has a large selection of books, which guests are free to borrow whilst on holiday, or exchange for those they have just finished reading. We also leave tea , coffee, sugar, salt, pepper and spices in the house at all times. Guests are welcome to use these, but please replace anything that is finished, or leave behind something for the next visitors. Enjoy!

Skiiing is available at Font Romeu, up the next valley, about an hour and a half 's drive, or train from Perpignan. There are two ski lifts. There are other resorts further up the next valley : travel from Perpignan towards Andorra ( rail or car).

The sandy beaches of the Mediterranean are 30 mins drive away at Argeles, with all kinds of beach sports or long open spaces. Visit Port Vendres for the daily morning fish market, and stay for lunch.

TODDLERS

There is a small stream of mountain water running through the garden, about 10 inches wide and never more than 3' inches deep. It is usually dry in summer. We have often had 2 year olds staying, and have a 3 year old grandchild who has often stayed. Because of the stream this is not a toddler-friendly garden, unless special care is taken to watch them whilst they are outside. But the garden is enclosed, and there is plenty of room to kick a football.

Other Activities:

Beach sports(30mins),ski (90),paragliding, quad bikes, guided mountain walks

Séjour à Céret

Review Submitted: September 7, 2010 Date of Stay: August 2010

Owner's Response: We like the garden to look lush, and occasionally slightly wild. This year it has got overgrown and major work is being done in the autumn to curb the invasive bamboos, which are now along one side of the pool.
Normally only pure cotton sheets are used on the beds : the previous couple invited 7 extra friends during the week, so we unexpectedly had to find bedding for 9 people! Our concierge used some of her own sheets for this group of 6. Many apologies. It was not from choice.

Hot Summer Holiday!

Review Submitted: June 29, 2010 Date of Stay: July 2009
I basked by the glistening pool all day and read books, ate at 'le pied dans le plat' in town and wandered along the river banks. This accommodation was spotless and well appointed. We were made most welcome. Good visitor-to-the-area information was supplied.

Lovely accommodation with brilliant location

Review Submitted: June 27, 2010 Date of Stay: May 2010
We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday here and found the accommodation to be perfect for us as a family. The accommodation was typically French gites-style with lots traditional French furnishings. The location was very central and was in walking distance to the town, where there are plenty of restaurants and it was a great base to explore the surrounding countryside. We would strongly recommend this and will definitely return again in the future.

Rustic country living.... French style

Review Submitted: June 25, 2010 Date of Stay: June 2010
... just returned from our second stay in this wonderful barn conversion. This property was exactly as we remembered it, with improvements made to the pool since we were last there... offering a very welcome dip on a hot day. Personally, I love to spend time under the palm trees, swinging in the hammock, reading a book or gently strolling up the road to sit at a street cafe in town and lazily drink coffee as the world passes me by.

This property is simple, unpretentious, cool and tremendously relaxing. It is furnished modestly with choice pieces of French-style furniture, absolutely fitting to each room.... and I so love the quirky wall of mirrors.... you can really tell that this is a house that is loved by its owners.

Ceret is a town full of character, poetry and art. Colliore within easy reach on the coast makes for a wonderful day trip and if you're feeling energetic, I recommend taking a path up into the hills behind the town, through the cork and cherry and olive trees... magic.

We'll definitely be coming back again... and might even make it an annual visit!

Nice location

Review Submitted: April 30, 2010 Date of Stay: August 2009
We picked the location of Ceret due to its proximity to many areas of interest. We, however, found that this accomodation had very low standards of cleanliness and would not recommend it toanyone.
