Vernet is a pretty French village 650 meters up Mount Canigou which dominates the nearby Mediteranean coast and the frontier between the South of France and Spain.Wih over 250km of walks for all abilities through the Nature Reserve you can take in the spectacular mountain scenery of the Pyrenees.Lovers of the sea can enjoy the golden sandy beaches at Le Canet and Argeles which are close by.It is a great base for exploring French and Spanish Catalonia.Girona is about 90 minutes away, whilst Figueres with the museum of Salvador Dali is even closer.Visit pretty harbour towns like Collioure or less than 10 km away the medieaval walled town of Villefranche. Notes to the rental rates

These are base rates for 12 people (16 in Very High Season) with a supplement per person per week over this number of :
140 euros in Very High season.
120 euros in High season and Xmas New Year.
90 euros in Medium season.
Outside of very high season weekend rates are available.
There are no other charges for linen and heating except from the beginning of November to the end of March when heating oil and electricity is charged at cost.
House keeping and catering are available and priced according to clients requirements.
A refundable security deposit of 500 euros is required to cover any damages.

| Notes: | The kitchen is fully equipped with fridge freezer, microwave, toaster, kettle, etc. There is a separate utility room with washing machine and ironing facilities. The dining room and lounge are large with sufficient seating for large parties. The gardens are delightful and again are equipped with a large BBQ and enough seating for a large party.An area has been landscaped and enclosed to play petanque whilst in the games room you can play table tennis. The swimming pool is large and fully enclosed for safety and located south facing to receive full sun with a decked terrace area to sunbathe on. Please advise if anyone in the party needs to be accommodated on the ground floor as there is no lift. There are also steps down to the garden and up to the pool area, which is enclosed for child security. |
Activities
You can combine all the activities you would expect of a seaside holiday with those of a break in the mountains as you are on the slopes of Mt Canigou which overlooks the Mediterranean with its miles of blue flag sandy beaches less than an hour away. Explore the mountain and its nature reserve on your doorstep or in season go skiing at Font Romeo or the other resorts nearby. If you want to bathe closer to home there are hot springs and mountain lakes with lifeguards to swim in locally. Culturallly there is much to explore with Romanesque abbeys and a mediaeval walled town. The area is an interesting blend of French and Catalan culture reflected in the local cuisine, with Spain just across the frontier. You can even explore the Pyrenees from the ease of the Little Yellow Train running from the station Vernet/Villefranche to Latour de Carol. For larger parties with varied interests and energy it is ideal as everyone can find something that they will enjoy in any season.
House and Gardens
We provide all bed linen pillows and towels and there are no hidden charges for fuel. The scale and standard of the accommodation is suitable for large parties who want to eat and play together and don't want to compromise by sleeping in dormitory type accommodation. It offers the luxury of a hotel with the independence of self catering at a very competitive price.The gardens are a particular feature offering a haven of tranquility under splendid old trees including an enormous Ginko Biloba. Vernet was a playground for the aristocracy in the Belle Epoque and retains the charm and architecture of its mediaeval past.

Skiing Information:
The nearest pistes are less than 30 minutes drive away up the main road towards Andorra. There is good skiing normally from December through March with lessons available at Font Romeo and Les Angles. The slopes are less busy than in the Alps.
Golf Information:
There is a championship golf course at St Cyprian an hours drive or a 9 hole course in the valley nearby.
