Tastefully and recently modernised village house with attractive fusion of old and new, wonderfully situated for a wide range of activities: swimming in nearby lake or the Mediterranean, walking, white-water sports, wine-tasting, golf, horse-riding, archaeological sites, art galleries or peaceful sun-bathing. Spacious and light kitchen with dining facilities plus electric oven, dishwasher, microwave, fridge, etc. Beamed, comfortable sitting room (with double sofa bed, if required) leading into garden via ancient riverstones steps. Twin-bedded room and large double bedroom with antique armoire leads via balcony directly into garden, perfect for breakfasting. 2 showers, 1 bath, 2 toilets. Top quality recliners in south-easterly facing garden for sun-bathing but also shade of cherry trees and muscat vine pergola. Views of hills, rooftops and pretty church. Gentle walks from the house through peach orchards and sweet chestnut woods, also marked walks in hills close to the village.

Finestret is a small attractive village 10 minutes by car from Prades, home to the celebrated Pablo Casals Music Festival held every August. Our village is picturesquely set amongst the lush rolling foothills of the Pyrenees alongside peach and cherry orchards and a clean, safe river, perfect for children. The local community welcomes visitors and regular activities include dancing, bison roasts and Easter events. Fresh bread is delivered daily. Marquixanes (3kms) provides fine organic produce and a vigneron, and you can relax at excellent restaurants at Vinca (4kms) or Prades. Cycle through peach orchards to the scenic swimming lake at Vinca or take the famous Petit Train Jaune en route to Andorra. Archaeological sites are everywhere, or travel on a 4x4 to the top of magnificent Mount Canigou. Skiing at Font Romeu (45 mins). Quick easy access to Mediterranean beaches (40 mins), Perpignan airport (35 mins) and Barcelona (90 mins)

Notes: Please note: the courtyard steps do not have banisters and the railings leading to the balcony have quite wide gaps. Uneven steps at rear. One garden boundary wall is quite low and drops down to the neighbouring garden. These all present hazards to unsupervised young children and would make access difficult for wheelchair bound visitors. However, there is direct access to the lower ground floor bedroom through a wide external door. Parking in the village square 100 yards away or larger car park, 200 yards.

Practical information: Vinca has a bank, post office, doctor and small general store as well as bakeries and hairdresser and a weekly market. There are two good restaurants and cafes. The large swimming lake has a sandy beach, lifeguard and snack bar. Prades offers large supermarkets that are open 7 days a week and have a wide range of fresh food and other goods. There are many restaurants in Prades, a good Tourist Office, library with internet facilities (from 9.00 am-1.00 pm), plus banks and attractive shops, e.g. homemade chocolates. A superb weekly market is held on Tuesdays. We have to confess a new Macdonalds has also just opened up! Our area boasts 310 days of sunshine a year and we have delightfully warm meals outside at Easter, as well as Autumn and February half terms and sometimes Christmas,too. The cherries on our trees are in abundance in May and there are many grapes in September and October. Our closest beach is situated between Canet Plage and St Cyrien with wide sandy stretches

Help in the village: We have an excellent (English) manager who will be glad to assist and welcome you on your arrival. He will be able to fill in any gaps not provided by our Information Pack.

Getting there: Finestret is central to 6 major airports: Perpignan (Flybe, Ryanair) - 35 mins. Girona in Spain - 75 mins. Barcelona - 90 mins. Montpellier - 120 minutes. Carcassonne - 135 minutes. Toulouse - 210 minutes. The village is accessed from the speedy and uncrowded road to Andorra, the N116, which is clearly signposted (follow directions to 'Prades') from Junction 42 (South Perpignan) of the A9-E15 autoroute, 'La Catalane'. Just beyond Vinca, Finestret is a short drive (4 kms) to the south.

We had 5 blissful days here. The location is real 'best kept secret' stuff; an hour from skiing (although the fab April weather meant we just missed out), 40 mins from the sea (drinking rose and picnicking on the beach at Collioure a particular highlight) and the surrounding lush green mountains are stunning. The house is a refreshingly tasteful change from the dowdy self-catering places I've stayed in before. The kitchen was well stocked, the bed really comfy and the garden so peaceful. If you go, you MUST walk along the canal just a few minutes' walk above the house. It's a flat walk and it follows the beautiful river into the mountains. Can't wait to come for a longer visit.

We have had two wonderful holidays here and have booked again for this coming summer. The house is lovely and sunny and is tastefully decorated with good attention to detail. Each time we have spent many happy hours sitting in the lovely garden which is a strong feature of the property and not always easy to find in other houses. A real opportunity for rest and relaxation and ideally located in terms of access to countryside and beyond!

Very strongly recommended. Gorgeous village, charming characterful accommodation, beautifully decorated and arranged. Well maintained, great service, convenient. A terrific place for a restful holiday, yet with sea, mountains, sights and walks nearby. Great food, too! Very much hoping to return!
