Llauro is a pretty Pyrenees hillside village 26 kms south of Perpignan, just over 25 kms from the beautiful Cote Vermeille on the Roussillon coast and only 16 kms from the Spanish border. The immediate vicinity to Llauro has the attraction of un-spoilt villages whose living is made from wine making, Cherries, Apricots and Peaches. The Spanish border is never far away and this adds great diversity to a holiday in this sun-drenched corner of Roussillon. The attractive and world famous towns of Ceret and Collioure with their artistic heritage and the colourful, bustling city of Perpignan are all local to the villa as are long stretches of sandy beaches. The attractive village of Llauro has a shop, bar, post office and wine cellar and just minutes away in either direction via spectacular scenic drives there are many traditional villages with local restaurants and butchers and bakers. There are also many local markets in the area and at le boulou and ceret, large supermarkets.

Further details for this holiday farmhouse rental in Ceret, France

Peaceful and convenient setting: The house sits in the heart of the little village of Llauro with a small grocery store, a bar/grill and a post office. Just five minutes in the car brings you to the larger village of Fourques with a good butcher and baker. Just over 10minutes by car brings you to the famous town of Ceret with bank and superb food market. Just outside Ceret is a large supermarket and two more at the nearby town of le Boulou. The countryside around Llauro is laced with small villages, all with their own colour and quiet shady spots from which to watch the world go by. From the house itself you have lovely views from the large balcony out over the Roussillon countryside.

The Pyrenees, The Med and Spain: From Ceret you choose whether to head East for the coast at Argeles and Collioure or whether to head West to the famous water spar town of Amelie-les-bains and further out to the Frontier with Spain over the Pyrenees with breathtaking views at Mollo. Spain can also be reached over the Pyrenees at Coustouges, Perthus and via the spectacular coastal road into the CostaBrava. Just over a ridge of the Pyrenean foothills overlooking Llauro can be seen the peak of the magnificent Mount Canigou. For many centuries this was regarded as the highest peak in the Pyrenees and was thought by ancient Catalan people to have magical powers. The sight of Canigou is certainly impressive and there are many guided walks and tours to enjoy Canigou and the surrounding Pyrenean foothills.

In amongst the vineyards: Llauro is nestled among many vineyards, some with appellation status and some offering very reasonably priced wine from their collective/co-operative. You are able to taste the wines at many caves and direct with the vineyards. There are also some lovely restaurants tucked away in the villages around Llauro where there is no nicer place to sample the local wines accompanied by a wholesome lunch or dinner. The special leisure trips are highly recommended to supplement your stay. . The options are: Roussillon wine production 20euros pp, Roussillon cork 25euros pp, Pyrenean Bee keeping 20euros pp. A walk up Mount Canigou 35eurospp , A Roussillon paint/sketch day 50eurospp inc materials. Also available are conversations in French 25 eurospp. Children are half price.

Typical France

Matt H Wakefield England
Review Submitted: November 19, 2008 Date of Stay: June 2008
We booked the property having reviewed many others in the local area & were particularly drawn in to the pictures of the farmhouse.

The cottage (old farmhouse) is basic but we were expecting this as it is "typically French" and it catered for all our needs. The propertys location is fantastic, in the middle of a small village set in the foothills of the Pyrenees. It was a perfect base from which to explore, whether that be the nearby beaches, mountains, local towns or even Spain!

The property was clean and well maintained & could cater for all ages - (there is a small staircase leading up to the property).

The owner of the property catered for all our needs & was there to meet us upon our arrival to explain everything we needed to know - it did help having a French speaker in the party though.

The best item about the property was the private pool, which, although not quite finished, (ie shower facilities) ensured we finished off all our days out with a dip! I would recommend the cottage on this alone as my daughter couldn't stay away from it!!!

I would have no hesitation about booking this property again if we were to revisit this wonderful area of southwest France.

Pretty village, basic property - unfinished

iperrett Cheshire, England
Review Submitted: August 9, 2008 Date of Stay: August 2008
We stayed the previous week in a similarly priced premium property. By comparison, this one was adequate but overall overpriced and rather disappointing on 3 counts:

On the plus side, the owner was friendly. The property was clean, and the pool was new and huge. The views were spectacular and the village, whilst remote, is extremely beautiful.

So the negatives?

1. The property is unfinished - especially the outside - where we spent most of the time due to the heat. The yard was distinctly 'rustic', and the walk through the barn and down the hill to the pool was bordered with building materials and rubble. A few tons of gravel did little to conceal garish plastic pipework which is still in evidence. The swimming pool surround still consisted of breeze blocks, which need rendering and painting, and the pool house lacked a working shower. There was little planting to cover the large pile of excavated stones and earth.

2. The property contained nothing but the bare minimum. Sheets and towels were extra. Even dry goods (pasta, tins, dishwasher tablets, washing powder, bin bags, toilet roll) were not provided. In my experience, these are often left from previous occupants. It would have been a nice touch. Instead of which, immediately following our arrival, we had to travel 10km to the local supermarket to do the weekly shop. Home from home! Small touches, such as playing cards, holiday reading, games, even toys and inflatables by the pool would not go amiss. They were provided in the other property we stayed at, and really made us feel welcome. There is a distinct lack of storage space for clothes, especially on the ground floor. The kitchen cutlery was of the camping variety, and there were no serving spoons. It was as though the owners have never actually stayed in the property themselves.

3. There was a lovely balcony outside the house, which the owner tells me will be extended next year (and finished, I hope). Unfortunately, it was overlooked by the neighbours directly across the road. The men sat outside all evening, chatting, and we felt a little like goldfish in a bowl. Perhaps a low screen would provide a little greater privacy to enjoy the beautiful views from the balcony?

We enjoyed ourselves, but I felt that for the money, we were rather let down.

The slopes and stairs make this property unsuitable for young children.
Owner's Response: This response should not be credible as the renter when they were at the property expressed complete satisfaction. The owner saw the renter on several occassions and each time the renter was extreemly happy at the property.

In addition, there was no problem with understanding as the renter spoke excellent french.

The renter at no time asked the owner for any problem to be resolved. In addition to this, the owner supplies all renters with a booking form which provides the opportunity for the renter when they arrive to make the owner aware of any unsatisfactory aspect of the property. The owner has never recieved any response of an unsatisfactory nature, this renter included.

The owner has had full booking of this property for three years with totaly satisfied clients. The owner takes great pride in the property and is very approachable and lives nearby.

This renter expressed only satisfaction when they were at the property.

For this reason a negative response contary to what they said to the owner on location makes the response invalid.

Any new enquirer to this lovely property can be assured that they will be welcomed to a property in great order and great value for money.
