Fabulous area for vineyards and wine tastings. Popularised in 1905 by artists such as Matisse, Picasso and Charles Rennie Mackintosh the beautiful light is inspiring to anyone with even the smallest artistic leaning. The sea is very clean and calm and the beaches gentle. Walks of all levels are nearby and Catalan country promises drives to abbeys, mountains and cooling springs and lakes. The town has an excellent twice weekly characteristic local market. From the terrace your view shows why the area is known as the Vermillion coastline. Two minutes from the house is a nature reserve filled with wild flowers and a breathtaking 360 degree view of the Mediterranean and the mountains - a must to view the fabulous sunset.

Further details for this holiday house rental in Collioure, France

Around the year: Collioure is a year round town where the weather is a micro-climate of sunny winter days and hot summer days. The crisp winter skies are filled with stars and the summer skies are Vermillion red. You can drive to ski resorts in just over two hours or spend spring days walking the foothills. Behind our house is a nature reserve full of wild flowers and a view that is breathtaking - 360 degrees of mountains, sea, town, hills and flowers. This is a unique paradise all year.

The town and market: The market arrives in Collioure on Wednesday and Sunday and provides an excellent meeting point for locals and visitors alike. There is entertainment almost every day in the summer from musicians to dancers and clowns and food festivals and everyone is made to feel welcome. Collioure is famous for anchovies and rarely a week goes by in the summer without an anchovy fete! The area is also famous for its cherries, apricots and peaches which arrive in abundance and scent the air with their perfume. Perhaps sit on the beach and let the peach juice dribble down your chin or the cherries turn your mouth blue!

Quieter times: Outside the peak holiday times Collioure is a glorious place to wander gently around with cafes on the beach to enjoy the views of the famous bell tower. Around the town are strategically placed frames which illustrate the point of painting for the famous pictures of Matisse, Derain, Picasso and Mackintosh. There are beautiful drives to take into the hills and the chance to visit the many wine tasting vineyards. There is a wonderful petit train that climbs the tiny road to the top of the hill and around the vineyards and back to Collioure - it's amazing fun and leaves from the parking area just by the bridge in the town centre on the hour. Let someone else do the driving.

Other Activities:

markets; sunbathing; doing nothing

Better than expected

Review Submitted: July 26, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
This house is great. I think the photos undersell it a bit as it is not until you are there that you appreciate the spacious living area from which the large deck extends. We were there for a month, for much of the time with 8 in the house, and space was never a problem. The 2 downstairs bedrooms have their own terrace, there is the sunning area around the dipping pool at the front, there is the 'family room' upstairs, so plenty of opportunity to get away from the gang. The standard of decoration and equipment is first class.
A tip: you can access the WiFi network of the Hotel Madeloc from the house, albeit at a charge, if you need internet.

Way above expectation

Review Submitted: November 24, 2011 Date of Stay: October 2011
This outstanding holiday property is located in one of the most delightful areas of France and on returning to the UK I couldn't wait to re-book for next year and after reading the visitors book in the house I realised that I would not be alone in re-booking !!

On arrival you are immediately struck by the size of the rooms, the attention to detail and the cleanliness of the property - Open the shutters and 'wow' the view, the town a short distance below and the foothills of the Pyrenees mountains just beyond. The town is a delightful 10 minute walk away and has everything you would expect from a 'high quality' bustling French Town, with Historical and cultural distractions at every turn let alone the lure of the sea, the coffee shops, bars and restaurants and of course the market. It is also worth mentioning that for the week of my stay in mid October the weather was warm and sunny.

I would certainly recommend this holiday home to others - but not too many because I want to make sure there is room for me next year !!

A lovely house in Collioure

Review Submitted: October 17, 2011 Date of Stay: September 2011
The house lived up to all our expectations, it was delightful, with beautiful views over Collioure. Sitting on the terrace in the early evening was wonderful. We were four adults in the house - so loads of space. The kitchen is particularly well equipped for eating in - with everything you need to make cooking easy.

We found the house very clean and well maintained. Gavin was very helpful and it was good to know there was someone on hand if needed. Collioure itself is a pretty litlle town with lovely restaurants and bars. We enjoyed our trip on the petit train - but not for the faint-hearted! We hope to return one day.

Magical, relaxing, beautiful Collioure !

Review Submitted: October 16, 2011 Date of Stay: August 2011
Diana, Collioure was everything you said and more. Your apartment was perfect for us and our three children, plenty of space for everyone. The location and view was absolutely perfect and only 10 minutes walk into the centre of Collioure. The pool was perfect for cooling off in. Our favourite place to be ... the terrace any time of day - the most calming, breathtaking view. I loved to get up first in the morning, sit on the terrace in the cool morning air and watch the sun rise. Favourite evening pastime - walk around the maze of cobbled streets, enjoy the warm evening air and explore the huge variety of boutiques and gift shops - then sit down by the bay and watch the lights sparkling on the water and all the children dipping their toes in the water and giggling. True relaxation at its best. Sunday morning at the market - wonderful. Children's favourite pastime - diving off the pontoon in the bay, oh and early morning trips to the boulangerie for hot fresh bread and pastries! We never tired of Collioure and our last evening by the bay was so perfect, we were very sad at the thought of packing up and going home. I had so many ridiculously silly questions to ask and you were so patient and so helpful which made our holiday completely stressfree! We couldn't ask for more from a holiday! \One day, we will return to Collioure and re-live our fond memories !

An excellent holiday

Review Submitted: September 12, 2011 Date of Stay: August 2011
The house was perfect for two families, each with two teenage children. Large kitchen and dining / lounge area and 4 good sized bedrooms meant we weren't getting under each others' feet. The 'chill pad' on the top floor with tv, video and sofa was an ideal den for the teenagers.

The house was well equipped with everything you would reasonably need, but we didn't need to do much cooking with the variety of good restaurants in town. Great to relax in the evening on the terrace overlooking the town.

The 10 minute walk down the hill into town and back helps walk off the catalan custard doughnuts from the bakers in town! The view over Collioure from the house is well worth the walk back up the hill.

Would definitely recommend this property.

Owner's Response: We are really so grateful to our lovely guests who have enjoyed our home so much this year and appreciate their great feedback. We always want to be responsive and to make each holiday better than the last so are very pro-active when we receive helpful suggestions. I have enjoyed hearing of the happy holidays our home has shared, along with some clearly life changing experiences guests have had being part of Collioure life for a while. Thank you for enjoying life with us. Diana Wilmot, Owner
