You can step out of the kitchen or dining room onto a south facing terrace with stone barbecue. The pool is surrounded by a large patio area and has a raised seating/table area with pergola for shade. The pool has salt water rather than a chlorine sterilising system, the salt is much weaker than the sea, similar to some bottled drinking water. There is an electrically operated pool cover which complies with French child safety legislation.
There are garden chairs, lounger’s, hammocks, two outdoor dining tables and two large garden umbrellas. We have ourselves rented houses in the past and so we have tried to make this a 'home from home' rather than just a 'holiday let'. In the house you will find ample plates, cups and glasses, including plastic for poolside use, and many extras such as hair-dryers, toaster, iron and citrus press.
The area is famous for it's cherries, white peaches and apricots plus of course a superb range of cheese, seafood and local wine. There are 3 vineyards in Montesquieu itself. One of these, Mas Rous is listed in the Hachette Guide and has won numerous medals. They welcome visitors and Madame Pujol speaks excellent English. Another, Domaine de Breuil, is owned by the former village Maire, M. Joseph de Massia. You may be lucky enough to see him arrive at the cave on his antique bicycle.
The area around Montesquieu (France and into Spain) has countless beautiful and interesting places to visit. We have been visiting for years and know we will never get bored with exploring the coast, the mountains, quaint villages and cities such as Perpignan, Girona, Barcelona, Carcassonne, Narbonne, Bezier........ the list goes on. See catalanholidayvilla.co.uk for more information on the fascinating and varied region surrounding our house.
Ryanair fly to Perpignan (25mins drive) & also to Carcassonne, Montpelier (both about an hour and a half drive). Also Girona (N. Spain) from 8 UK airports, but only 45 mins away from house. Montesquieu is 15km from Spain, 180km from Barcelona (drive to Figueras - 30 mins- and take the train) and an hour and a half from nearest ski resorts at Font Romeu, Les Angles. The is ample parking outside the house as we are on the corner of a very quiet road & a cul de sac. Two general grocers & boulangeries in the next village sell most things you might need. Supermarkets in Le Boulou (Intermarche and Leclerc, St Genis (Champion), St Andre (Intermarche) and Argeles ( a large Carrefour). Also huge Auchan on the edge of Perpignan. Excellent restaurants all around the area - from pizzas to Michelin stars. HOUSE PRICE INCLUDES: GAS, ELECTRICITY, WATER, BED LINEN AND TOWELS (for both bath and pool).
Other Activities:
just lazing by the pool with a cool drink and soaking up that glorious sunshine.
