Joch is a small attractive, flower-filled, traditional village with tiny cobbled streets on a hill side above the beautiful valley of the Tet. Our comfortable and airy house, with its large roof terrace, is situated to take full advantage of the stunning views over the valley and towards the high Pyrenees in the west. It offers the perfect setting for a relaxing holiday and for exploring the many attractions of the surrounding area.
Our nearest small town - Vinca which is less than two miles away, has a range of local shops including artisan bakers, local produce, a small supermarket and a pretty lake-side swimming beach with lifeguards.
The Mediterranean coast (the Cote Vermeille) with wonderful beaches (we particulalry like the sandy beach at Argeles) and attractive small towns including Collioure and Banyuls sur Mer is easily accessible in around 45 minutes, There is excellent mountain walking on nearby Mt Canigou and in the area around Mt Carlit, together with a wide range of sporting and adventure activities close by, including white water rafting, canyon walking and good local rock climbing. St Thomas les Bains has outdoor thermal hot springs in the mountains 40 minutes away. Local bird watching is excellent.
The area offers a wide range of cultural activities, including major international festivals in Perpignan and the Pablo Casals festival in Prades. There are Cathar castles at Peyrepertuese and Queribus, Romanesque abbeys, monasteries and churches, including St Michel de Cuxa and St Martin de Canigou nearby and the walled town of Villefranche - a UNESCO World Heritage site is 30 minutes away. The pretty little town of Ceret has a modern art gallery which includes works by Picasso, Derain and Matisse.
Excellent local wine and good local markets are to be found across the whole area..
Further afield Carcassone is around an hour and a half away, Barcelona around two and a half and Cadaquez where Salvadore Dali lived and worked about an hour and a half.
