Languedoc-Roussillon is known as the sunniest region of France and is very popular with French holiday makers, the Roussillon plain that stretches from Perpignan back into the Pyrennes is a major fruit, wine and vegetable producing region which adds hugely to local cuisine.
This region has recently been opened up to UK and Irish residents with direct Ryanair flights to Perpignan from Stanstead, to Girona from Shannon, Dublin, Glasgow, Doncaster, Luton/Stanstead Bournemouth and to Carcassonne from Dublin, Shannon Liverpool, Stanstead and East Mid. Perpignan airport is 30 mins from the house while Carcassonne and Girona are 1 and 1.5 hours respectively
The area is steeped in history having in the past been home to the Cathars and swapped as recently as the 18th century with Spain. The Catalans are very proud of their heritage with the yellow and red Catalan colours displayed everywhere in the locality.
This region really has something for everyone from beaches to mountains
