LOCAL ATTRACTIONS:
The list of sight seeing opportunities easily accessible within a day is exhaustive. On your doorstep: THUIR - LES CAVES BYRRH(housing the largest oak vat in the world). CASTELNOU - a wonderful example of a fortified village sleeping peacefully behind its ramparts. THE PYRENEES, constantly in view and a short drive away take you to many beautiful and interesting destinations: PRADES - (birthplace of Cellist Pable Casals). VILLEFRANCHE-DE-CONFLENT a fortified town dating back to the 11th and 15th century - a good place to catch 'LE TRAIN JAUNE' if you prefer not to drive on the mountain roads. The road to CORNEILLA leads to the GRANDES CANALETTES a cave known familiarly as the 'underground Versailles of Pyrenees' due to its ivory stalagmites. Alternatively, take the road off to: SAINT-MARTIN-DU-CANIGOU, an incredible sight and architectural revolution. Continuing along the mountain route to Font Romeu and Pyrenees 200,popular winter ski resorts, equally popular during summer.

WATER SPORTS - 20 minutes to the beach and you have an enormous range of water sports facilities, from scuba diving to pedalos, children’s play clubs and an enormous water theme park.
EATING OUT - There is a wide variety of good restaurants locally, with international cuisine in Perpignan (12 kms). By English standards the restaurants are very reasonable priced with a good selection of wine at very realistic prices.
WINES - Languedoc Roussillon supply one in ten bottles of the worlds wines, hence an excellent region for the wine enthusiast.

THUIR provides adequate facilities to service all food requirements, with local bakers open daily Local shops offer a wonderful selection of pastries, fresh fish, meat, fruit and vegetables. A choice of two supermarkets are situated on the outskirts of the town and more extensive facilities such as hyper-markets, clothes/sports and toy shops are available in PERPIGNAN commercial centres or in the fascinating old town of PERPIGNAN where you can find many interesting shops and boutiques offering designer clothing.
