The house is even better than it appears in the pictures and description. The views, from every window, will take your breath away. The house is immaculately clean, wonderfully cool and modern. The short distance to Ceret is both convenient and just far enough from town to ensure a blissful quiet at the house - day or night. The pool appears brand new and is refreshing even in the hottest part of the day. The beds and linens, furniture and kitchen appliances are very, very nice and give a homey yet pampered effect. The outside areas are ingeniously situated to take advantage of sun or shade depending on time of day and desire. The shutters on the windows and the giant ceiling fans keep the house cooler and more comfortable than electric air conditioning. It is just a brilliantly designed house.
Ceret itself is a beautiful town. The bridges, the avenues of gigantic sycamore trees, the river, the walled centre ville, the main square, the tiny roads of stone houses, are all incredible. The residents and business owners are friendly and warm. Just about everything one might need for a holiday is available right in Ceret, whether it's a large grocery (Intermarche), a quick stop grocery (Spar), patisseries, boulangeries, charcuteries, internet access, laundry, gas/petrol, doctors, dentists, banking, postal service, museums, bookstores, etc. It would be no trouble at all to stay months at a time and lack for nothing.
A short drive North on the A9 or the D900 lead easily to Perpignan, a great and gorgeous city, with all the cosmopolitan urbanity one might miss (or not) by staying in an idyllic commune like Ceret. We liked making time for a combination of both.
Making arrangements with the owners was easy, friendly, and everything was as promised (and often better). The neighbors/caretakers are a lovely couple, helpful and kind, and we rather wished they were our own neighbors all year. Our family had a magical week, and we hope to return soon.
