The charm of this romantic and airy villa lies in it being surrounded by an amphitheatre of nature – birds, trees, cicadas and singing tree frogs - giving a wonderful sense of freedom and tranquility which will restore and refresh even the most stressed and weary guests. The spectacular Pic du Canigou can be viewed from many corners of the villa and the garden. Because the garden and private land around is extensive and natural everyone can find their private spot to read, sunbathe or simply chill. Throughout July and early August the many lavender bushes in the garden are covered with exotic butterflies including humming bees. Evenings can be spent outside on the covered terrace watching the sunset and enjoying a barbecue and local wine or by the pool watching the glorious view of Mt Canigou fading at dusk.

Prades (2.5 km) boasts a wonderful market selling local Muscat wine and Catalan paella on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Mt Canigou can be approached either on foot following waterfalls and deep rock pools or by 4x4 jeeps - more gentle walks can be found along the narrow canal which meanders through the woods close to the villa. For the adventurous younger members of the family, playing in the little stream at the bottom of the sloping garden will bring hours of safe fun. For nature lovers the narrow-gauge Little Yellow Train which leaves from Villefranche-de-Conflent winds its way up from the valley to the mountains crossing rivers and gorges and is an excellent way to discover the region around Prades. For music lovers, the Pablo Casals music festival held in and around Prades during August is wonderful. For birdwatchers, the woods and valley below the villa is bird paradise and artists will find the local landscape and coastal villages greatly inspiring.

  • We have an outside shower area which we use after trips to the beach and ample washing lines for drying towels.

  • All three bedrooms have wooden floors and ceilings -both double bedrooms have colour co-ordinated bedlinen and are simply but tastefully furnished. The room with bunk beds has a more child-friendly feel with fun furnishings but please note these beds may be suitable for children and young teenagers only. All beds have duvets and comfortable mattresses.

Notes: Because of the wrap-around balcony we feel this villa is not be suitable for children under the age of 5 House towels only are provided. Guests are asked to bring their own pool and beach towels. Villa Clara is a strictly NON-SMOKING property owing to its very rural surroundings and for the comfort of those suffering from allergies. The villa will have been cleaned prior to guests arrival but we do expect the villa to be left in a clean and tidy condition. Inside the villa are plenty of books, board games and a table tennis table. The pool (11.5 x 5.5 metres) will be maintained weekly and has two alarms to comply which current French regulations. Mid-stay clean and change of linen/towels can be arranged for stays longer than a week for an additional cost. On arrival to Villa Clara our guests recieve a complimentary bottle of wine from the abbey of St-Michel-de-Cuxa and a bag of locally cooked crisps!
