Apartment with Roof Terrace in heart of Uzes SE France

Luminous apartment on the second floor of an 18th Century town house with a sunny roof terrace where you can dine under the towers of the Duché - the château of Uzès. The apartment is simply furnished, decorated with original oil paintings and with a spiral staircase leading to the terrace. It is 20 yards from the arcade Place aux Herbes, famous for its colourful Saturday market which you can see by just leaning out of the window! Uzès, built from the white limestone on which it stands, is the perfect place to forget about time, relax, and lose yourself in the maze of little streets full of cafés, restaurants and historic sites, or walk in the shady river valley. Perfectly situated for visiting Montpellier, Aigues Mortes, the Camargue with its flamingoes and wild white horses, Les Baux de Provence, St. Remy-de-Province, Orange, Avignon, Arles and the Mediterranean beaches.

First Floor: Entrance with cctv entry phone. Well equipped kitchen with dishwasher, electric oven, ceramic hob, fridge/freezer, electric kettle, cafetiere, toaster, usual pots and pans, 6 place settings. Kitchen windows look over the rooftops to the Duché. Living/dining room has a dining and seating area and a window looking onto the street. There are two sofas, easy chairs, coffee table, dining table and chairs. There is also an internet corner, with WiFi and telephone (this will be available as of Spring 2008) Bedroom 1: Double bed, fitted wardrobe, bedside tables and lamps, hand basin unit with marble top surround, full length mirror, plus wonderful view over the roofs to the Duché. Up a spiral staircase to the second floor where there is a marvelous view of the terrace again, overlooking the Duché. Bedroom 2: two single beds, 2 bedside tables with lamps, wardrobe and view of rooftops. Bathroom: bath with douchette, handbasin, hairdryer, washing machine, ironing facilities

The landscape between Uzès and the Cévennes is of vineyards, olive groves and garrigue - covered in wild thyme, box and rosemary. There are beautiful walks along the rivers which cut through the hills, where they slice out deep gorges. There is good river, bathing, canoeing, rock climbing and pony trekking. There are many lovely villages nearby, like St Quentin-la-Poterie and Vézenobre.  * The Roman Pont du Gard (10 mins away) - photographs do nothing to prepare you for the scale and grandeur of this 2000 year old feat of engineering. * Nîmes (30 mins) - the astonishingly preserved Maison Carré (a Roman temple) and the Arena where they have bullfights.
