The house is in a classic French village 49km north of Montpellier, sometimes called the Paris of the south because of the impressiveness of the architecture and the liveliness of the cultural life. It is 10min walk from waterfalls and river beaches, at the foot of the Cevennes mountains so you have both wild, unpacked countryside and the mellow Mediterranean vineyards of sensuous Provence. The nearest towns are Ganges(5km) and Le Vigan(15km) which are pleasantly slow-paced, full of nooks and crannies and sport festivals at different times of the year. You can walk out into the mountains from the front door and the roads are rarely congested for exploratory driving at all times of the year. The clear rivers Vis and Herault run nearby and are popular for swimming and canooing. The med beaches and the Camargue are an hour away. The village itself is an artist's delight with cafe/restaurant, post office, library and bakery. In winter it's possible to ski around Mont d'agouil 80km away.

guests' impressions
These are some of the comments we have had from people who have stayed in the house: 'this is a house for people who enjoy a classically French environment. Both the house and the village have tons of character and we just loved our explorations, jumping in different parts of the rivers en route on and off throughout the day.Other days we just lazed, on the nearest sea beaches, by the river or on the sublime terrace, also wonderful for moon annd star gazing' 'we loved the combination of peace and quiet and loads of activities, rural or urban, which are easily accessible.Swam in the river, played lots of tennis(5 mins away) and went for superb meals in restaurants nearby or in chic Montpellier' 'fell in love with this most unusual house, with its medieval bits and nooks and crannies, and found the area very genuine and unspoilt.Enough places to visit for months! 'Activities for all tastes-trekking, sport, culture, delish dinners. Some days just walked into mts from front door.'
Other Activities canooing; caves(famous ones);historic and geological sites; museums;festivals; markets; cinema;theatre
