300-year-old stone house in tiny medieval French village
This beautifully restored and renovated row house is built into a hillside on a very narrow street. It has four stories with 250m2 total floor area. The ground floor has a fully equipped laundry, WC and restored cave with vaulted stone ceiling. A stone stair leads to the second floor, a wide open space (72m2) with high ceilings and exposed beams that includes kitchen, dining and living areas. Glass doors at the back lead to a 70m2 garden with terrace, fountain, culinary herbs and fig, olive and pomegranate trees. A spiral stair in the center leads to a third floor with two bedrooms, two double beds and a full bath. Another stair in the back bedroom leads to a mezzanine with a double bed and a south facing roof terrace with a spectacular view of the tiled roofs of the village houses, surrounding vineyards and olive groves, mountains and sky. The house is furnished with local antiques.

The medieval village of Durfort is on the southern slope of the Cévennes Mountains. The region is extremely beautiful and culturally rich. The mountains are full of well marked hiking, biking and riding trails and scenic roads like La Corniche des Cévennes. Vineyards, gardens and olive groves dot the landscape. Nearby villages like Sommières and Uzès have open air markets offering superb local produce, wines, cheeses and crafts. Rivers like the Herault, Gardon and Vis afford ample opportunities for swimming, fishing, canoeing and kayaking. Other local attractions include Roman ruins like Le Pont du Gard and natural wonders like Le Cirque de Navacelles and La Petite Camargue. The village itself is utterly peaceful and serene. Nearly every house is stone and every street narrow. Rose and wisteria vines adorn the facades. Local amenities include a general store, library, bakery, art gallery and three excellent restaurants. A supermarket and other stores are just 10 minutes by car.
Local activities swimming, tennis, walking, cycling, fishing, horse riding, mountain biking, paragliding, roller blading
