There are free music shows every evening in summer months and many festivals throught the year. In early May the local Feria turns Ales into a 4 day party, with bull-fighting in the local Arena and parades and dancing in the streets. Uzes and Vezenobres are just two of many medieval towns and villages in the Cevennes foothills. Stretching from the moutians and forest of the Cevennes to the salt marshes of the Camargue, the Gard offers a huge variety of attractions. Nimes boasts the only fully preserved Roman temple of the ancient world, the Maison Carree and the city centre feature a number of interesting museums/shops

The famous Roman amphitheatre, Les Arenes, is host to excellent live concerts in the summer months but advance booking is essential. The pont de Gard, just northeast of Nimes, is the largest surviving Roman aqueduct, while Aigues Mortes to the south is an almost perfectly preserved walled medieval town. For lovers of the great outdoors there are endless opportunities for cycling, hiking, pony trekking, fishing and canoeing. The nearest golf courses are Nimes Vacquerolles, a good 18 hole course and Uzes, a pretty testing 9 hope course. There are miles of sandy beaches on the Mediterranean coast and countless vineyards to explore and enjoy with wonderful fauna and flora walking in the Cevennes. For the lest energetic, there are scenic drives in the magnificent Cevennes - to Mont Aigoual, the Cirque de Navacelles and Gorges du tarn. With superb light and beautiful views, the area offers great opportunities for those who love photography and painting.

Other Activities: ice-skating; kayaking; everything for babies and young children

A practical and idyllic base

David & Jeanette Canberra, Australia
Review Submitted: July 13, 2009 Date of Stay: April 2009
After renting at least twenty properties in Europe for short term stays over the past five years we would rank Le Sabatier at the top. It is truly a gem. If you like to be tucked away in quiet rural comfort with ready access to the many attractions of the area then this well equipped house is ideal. It is so easy to sink into the inviting calm of the house and grounds that one has to make an effort to get out and explore the many nearby attractions such as the route of the Pont du Gard, walks in the entrancing Cevenne or strolls in the wonderful gardens in Nimes.

The house is very practical and spacious. Self-caterers will appreciate the well equipped kitchen. There is an extensive library that will keep serious readers very happy. The private grounds are a delight with many nooks from which to sit and enjoy the views. The property description was not only accurate but very modest in presenting its many attractions.

The owners were very easy to deal with and made every effort to make us feel at home.

We would like to return to Le Sabatier one day.

Home with a view

The Mac Family Lancs, UK
Review Submitted: September 5, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
Our family has just returned from two weeks in the Cevennes region of
France and spent the second week at La Sabatier in Tornac, near Anduzes.

The villa has everything you would need for a family holiday, in fact there was nothing missing.

The kitchen was well equiped, there were two very comfortable sitting rooms and I lost count of the number of areas around the villa/garden where you could eat or just sit and watch the view, which was beautiful and peaceful.

There was a veritable library of books to read, music to listen to, TV (for the few who had to keep in touch with the UK!), table tennis and of course the lovely pool and garden.

The area is very central for visiting the area and the owners gave us excellent advice on places to visit. The scenery is stunning and the towns of Avignon, Uzes, Nimes, Ales and the Camargue region are within easy reach.

We returned home relaxed and refreshed and would recommend this villa to anyone.

Relaxation,relaxation,relaxation.

A truly wonderful location for any kind of holiday-be it adventure or just relaxing as in our case. The garden was exactly what we hoped it would be-beautifully tended and a joy to sit in.The house was comfortable and stayed cool despite being hot outside.
Perfectly situated for exploring both The Cevennes and the area as far as the Camargue. Our favourite trips were revisiting the gorges of the Tarn and Uzes is a must.
There are many cycle and walking possibilities-tried and tested regularly! Wine tasting is also well catered for locally-we discovered many domaines with medal winning wines.
Our only disappointment was the inefficient gas barbecue.
We shall certainly return to watch amazing sunsets from a beautiful garden.
Owner's Response: The barbecue has now been changed!

Paradise

Review Submitted: November 14, 2008 Date of Stay: August 2007
Having stayed at caroline and david's other home in France I was unsure wether I would like it as much as Aigremont. However, I was amazed at the incredible beauty and peace of this place. The grounds are stunning. A beautiful pool with views spanning the woods below and great space for kids. We played boules, ping pong, the kids played in the sand pit and used the multitude of outside toys kindly left by the owners. We never needed to leave the house! It had everything. But, we did venture out to the gorgeous countryside of the Cevennes with walks easily adaptable for young children and we took an old steam train from the local town up into the hills. Glorious!
I have rented many properties in the South of France and this house was by far the best equipped for children and adults alike! I will not waste my money again on villas by the sea, but will come back to Le Sabatier. We can't wait until next year!

Solitude and a beautiful view

AlanC Dublin, Ireland
Review Submitted: October 21, 2008 Date of Stay: July 2008
We had briefly visited Anduze two years ago , when we stayed at another Nolder house in Aigremont, and were impressed with the area. As we had enjoyed the house in Aigremont, we booked Le Sabatier because it had a pool and was close to Anduze. At the start there were only three travelling, my wife and I, and our youngest daughter, however we gambled on offering our older kids a free holiday in France and it worked. In the end there were 8 people, our own kids, a son-in-law, and a boyfriend. Apart for my wife and I, all in late teens/early twenties.
The house was great, very comfortable, clean, well equiped, lots of room for 8 adults/adolescents, and everything worked just as you would expect and hope for. The pool was large enough for 8 to play, swim, and generally be boisterous, and the pool area was great for lounging around.
But the jewel in all of this was the garden and the location. The photos don't do it justice. Close enough to Anduze to nip down, by car or bike, for breakfast croisants, the house was up a small laneway and the garden (and pool) overlooked a valley with a mountain at the far side. When you stand in the garden, or lounge by the pool you could be the only person in the whole world - the solitude was marvellous. There are other houses on the laneway, but Le Sabatier is almost the last one, and you will not be aware of the neighbours - you cartainly won't see them from the garden, nor will they see you.
The garden has lots of interesting features and a variety of areas for eating. We loved the raised terrace/decking for breakfast (just the two of us - usually). For the family dinner, always outdoors, we used the the long "french style" table under the wooden canopy - it certainly inspired us to eat mediterranean style and bar-b-que every day. A glass of wine, the sun setting over the mountain - best family meals we ever enjoyed.
Even though we are an active family, and there was lots to do in the locality, canoeing, biking, walking (some trails started from the house), running (great training area), we often spent the entire day around the house and pool/garden. We had to force ourselves to venture out some days.
Finally, the house guardian Pasos, could not have been more helpful and friendly - recommending routes for walking/running etc.
We will visit again, and I have recommended it to friends as well.
Owner's Response: We would love it if you came and visited our beautiful home in France
