Local activities:
There are a multitude of things to do and see in the region of St Siffret. Canoeing on the Gardon and arriving under the majestuous Pont du Gard is a memorable experience. Avignon, the beautiful Papal city and Nimes with its Roman remains are both at less than an hours drive and provide plenty of cultural and artistic experiences. In the summer months , festivals and cocerts abound. At an hours drive is the Camargue National Park with wild bulls,horses and flamingoes and the pretty sea side villages of Stes Maries la Mer and Aigues- Mortes close to the long sandy beaches near Montpellier .
Shopping:
Uzès is a real 'pearl'; tiny streets harbouring magnificent renaissance architecture meander around the Place aux Herbes famous for its bustling Saturday market, surely one of the prettiest in France and a real pleasure for the eyes and of course for the gourmets ! A great choice of bistros and gastronomic restaurants are to be found close at hand as well as a wonderful choice of shops providing all local specialities, cheese, fruit and vegetables and of course many wine cellars for tasting !
All year round::
This part of Provence is particularly agreeable off season. Clement temperatures with blue skies , sunshine, bathe the country side with an indefinable light so dear to so many famous artists. Les Olivettes is wonderful for this time of year, comfortably furnished and centrally heated; after a lazy day exploring the country side you can relax in front of a log fire and enjoy a glass of Cotes du Rhone purchased nearby. At the end of January is the Truffle festival in Uzès, the whole town is devoted to the black diamond, kilos for sale on the market place , demonstrations of truffle hunting and all the restaurants proposing a special truffle menu - an unique experience !
